For those that were there, how was the crowd? Size, energy, engaged....etc.

The crowd was a little smaller than I was expecting, but it was really engaged IMO. The best thing I thought was the spontaneous DEFENSE cheer by the student section. The crowd got into it pretty well, I was a little surprised how many were clearing out with us only having a 10 point lead with three or so minutes left.

If you've been a supporter of ISU MBB in the past I would recommend jumping back on, this team isn't perfect but it's been along time since we've had a team play this hard on defense. The offense while not perfect is always in motion I think the ball stuck maybe 3 times before we tried to run clock. That is not this teams forte. Most fun I've had at a BB game in a long time.

If you don't have tickets check out Cyclones.com they advertised some packages that were really family friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many young kids were there this evening.

Thanks for the post and link for tickets. I think I'm going to try to make it up for a few games this year. 50 years of Hilton, we aren't gonna set the world on fire this year, but let's help bring Iowa State basketball back!

The one downer to my first game this year is the new PA announcer. He sounds like a guy I've heard do games at the Well in Des Moines. He did alright I guess but Gary Wade was 1 in a million.
Cause he is the guy you've heard do games at WFA. He's solid though, but you're right, Gary is a legend and can't be replaced.

The other night I was so impressed with the effort level. Tonight it's the fact that the effort level comes along with intent. They aren't just running their asses off. They are getting to the right spots. At times, it seemed like we had 6 defenders, and even when Oregon State got the open look, it was rushed. Hell of a game.

Only 2 games into the year so obviously there's not a ton to say. The team has a long way to go, but it seems that they play hard. This team has more talent than last year, clearly. I know Oregon State went to the Elite 8 last year, and who knows how good they'll be this year but it wasn't even a thing after awhile to think we'd actually beat the worst team in our league after us.

So we'll see what happens but I think this team definitely plays better than at any point last year already - of course a long way to go but hoping for at least an OK season.

One of the coolest things, when it's so clear that they've been working so hard, is that they're being rewarded for their efforts. Coaches can't put a price on that kind of positive reinforcement.

One of the most frustrating things of the last many years, and I think even some of Fred's teams had this.....they'd get down to some teams and then in the last 3 minutes they'd finally be like "oh...wow we are probably going to lose." Then they'd start playing really well and harder. It always irked me that they couldn't actually focus and play hard for most of the game before that. It's like they never learned that they kept getting into these positions because they were sometimes lax in various areas for 95% of a game. Somehow some of the teams just never seemed to learn. Always blew my mind.

Again only 2 games in so there's not a ton to go off of, but it seems like the coaching staff MIGHT have these guys already in a better headspace about these things. Hope I'm right.

First time I have had a chance to watch them this year. Extremely pleased with the intensity and effort, especially on the defensive end. Rebounding was also impressive. It’s been a long time since an ISU team has defended and rebounded like that. Not sure what their record will be, but I can already tell that the fan base is going to be very proud of this team.

My favorite thing so far is that we don't have to rely on hitting every shot, because we're not letting the other team do that either. I'm not going to compare them to former elite Cyclone teams, but those teams had a reputation for doing that too.

Whether this just the players, TJ, Green or some combo, but the off the ball defense was really good. Brockington and Grill in particular were cutting off weak side cutters and getting deflections and steals on the weak side. Close outs on shooters including by George and Jones were good.

Gabe needs to keep putting it on the deck a little. Pull up j is nice. The zone Gave them some problems, but in VW they started penetrating a bit to get those (gasp) midrange jumpers everything else opened up.

This team is still short on horses (and shooters), but let’s stay positive when there are some bumpy stretches. These guys really are buying in to the team it seems.

It is really, really nice to see hard work and effort just instantly pay off for these guys. Usually it feels like you have to eat about 10 pounds of **** before it does but nope, today we just finally knocked off another P5 team for the first time in nearly 2 years. Feels good

This was a good win. Saw a blurb on screen during the broadcast that Oregon St was picked 4th in the Pac. If they're really that good, our guys really might be able to bring Hilton magic back...as early as this season

You guys are 2-0 including a win against a middling P12 squad. Which is a good win.

Less pearl clutching and more beer drinking as ISU fanatics.

There is literally nowhere to go but up after last year.

Kudos to the students and fans who attended.

Ps. Four beer related edits.
