Knock yourself out. Because if it gets to that in February, then either we were doing very well up until then and hit a slump.......or the other teams have just adjusted to the way we play i.e. zone, trap.......whatever. Good teams do that now and then. Very rarely do teams get "tired". Ask Johnny.....18-23 year old athlete's with a TO every 4 minutes. Those who bring out that excuse are just looking to cover a**. And TJ and the guys don't need it.
Ask Johnny?

This is the culmination hire of all our past coaches. We can finally end our love affair with Fred and realize he was a bit smoke and mirrors once Kane and Ejim left. TJ has the fire of Tom Izzo and the heart of Paul Rhoads.
I don't bust out the dumb emoji much but this deserves multiple

While at the game yesterday I picked up a 50 Years of Hilton poster…

HOW do you leave Fred off of this? It’s really unbelievable IMO.

Not as a player or coach?

Maybe someone in the design department is holding a grudge.

Neither. I was very surprised when I took a closer look today.

I think A LOT of players were left off that should have been represented.(Very odd collection of players).

Kalscheur may shoot 20% from 3 and we may lose a lot of games but he’s a baller and we need that energy.

Grill looks fantastic. He can turn into a great 3rd guard.

Kalscheur was getting good looks last night. He'll have good nights where he hits more of those.

Grill's shooting seems to have improved quite a bit since he was last in Ames.

Imagine where the team would be right now if Foster was as on point with his development and effort as Hunter. I'd be picking the Cyclones to make the NCAA tournament given what I've seen.

Oh well. Instead he is, well, everybody knows.

Doubly a shame because TJ and KG could have brought in a transfer to start at the "5," which would raise the ceiling and provide the front court depth. He's had pretty good lines for UNC so far...

Not super high minutes or volume but excellent efficiency.

He would have fit right in playing 25+ MPG alongside the rather good back court.

The one downer to my first game this year is the new PA announcer. He sounds like a guy I've heard do games at the Well in Des Moines. He did alright I guess but Gary Wade was 1 in a million.
Cause he is the guy you've heard do games at WFA. He's solid though, but you're right, Gary is a legend and can't be replaced.
Not ever hearing the new guy, I'm sure it's hard because he's new, and different. Hopefully he will do a good job. But change is always difficult, at first especially.

It makes me think of our old friend Pete Taylor. What a sudden loss and then, how can you replace him, a legend. But then we got John Walters!

So fortunate to have a pxp guy like John (to replace Pete). He has been more than great. That is one example where we lucked out (bad choice of words, if Pete had to go; but you know what I mean).

I was just thinking this word is a good one. Here's another, apropos.

Cyclone mettle is being tested after today (the TT FB loss). So glad we have some some real encouragement with the BB team. Also glad that we are Cyclones. We will get thru this. And yes our fans are not as schizophrenic as some.

I dig Jackson out there with the man-beard, looking like Baron Davis. It's been great to see him contribute. That dribble pull up three he hit was gorgeous.
Yeah, or the James Harden vibe. (atleast with the facial hair, not the height)

p.,s., I had no idea James Harden was 6'5". I kind of thought he was only 6'2-3".

What a turnaround this game for Enaruna and Kunc. Offense still needs to come from them but they were great defensively. If Enaruna buys in and plays defense like he did last night he'll end up getting a lot of burn which should in turn give him more confidence on the offensive end. He's sort of an X-factor to me. If TJ can unlock his potential, even just a bit, we could surprise a lot of teams.
That step back transition Enaruna 3 was the highlight of the game for me. He got subbed out not too much later, and I was surprised he wasn't brought back in. I thought he was flying around on D and doing some good work.
Agree. Enaruna is one of the wild cards. Buy in Big boy. It'll be worth it. You may have the potential.

Maybe. Right now they are playing 9. Usually 7-8 is a good rotation. I know Walker has talent, so unless he is injured, in the doghouse or going to transfer that is 10. They are only lacking inside depth. And if Kunc and Enaruna can take up some of the slack from Jones and Conditt.....I don't see how they will be gassed anymore than anyone else.
I'll remember this when the "we are tired" posts come out in February.
Yea I agree, and you know what if they do wear down that’s fine. From what I have seen so far is that will make them work even harder next year. It would be nice if Walker was at least serviceable to give the guards a blow.

I'm wondering if Walker is not seeing the floor yet because his defense is just not there yet. I remember, what little I did see of last year's team, Walker's defense left a lot to be desired, but so did a lot of players. I'm hoping he will be making progress in that area and will see the court soon. (?)

Ask Johnny?
He is up in the rafters of Hilton, somewhere, lurking. RIP Johnny!

two points?
I let that one slide.

Yep, I'm old but you are right ISU and it's fans have been very lucky to have as strong a radio crew as we have for all these yrs. When I heard Pete died it was just a shock to me, 1st person I hadn't known that it really made me sad when he passed. JW had some huge shoes to fill and he has done it very well.

This is true, but we also haven't seen an Iowa State team hustle this hard on defense and the boards in a long time. Tre Jackson at one point in the 1st half had to look at the coach pull on his jersey to get a sub. These guys are running their asses off for 40 minutes a game (most of the time picking up the ball full court). These guys will be tired, and it should be interesting to see what happens when they do. But being able to trust 9 guys is depth we haven't had in a long time.

i.e. Virginia the year we played them in the NCAA's in Chicago. They had to work their asses off on defense for 40 minutes against a very good Iowa State team. Then turned around and had to play Syracuse the very next day and got blown away. Sustained good defense (especially on little rest) is a tough effort to pull off.
