Latest rumors are USC is looking at making a big run at Lincoln Riley. I think this has some real steam, and could see him going there. Hear me out:
- Lincoln Riley is used to dealing with 5 star players all the time, he would be able to handle the big personalities
- OU in the SEC west? Could be tough to have sustained success against A&M, Alabamer, and LSU each season. He can likely forget about the playoff with OU in the SEC. Talk about a massive misfire from OU if this happens.
- You go to the pac12 and you're instantly a power, only really competing with Oregon and UCLA. I think USC fits more of a high profile blue blood college / NFL type, and Riley fits that to a T.
- He has already denied he has any interest in LSU

I also think them chatting about Lincoln Riley more on their boards......has me inclined to think Campbell has already declined them. But I am speculating.

I think OU going to the SEC is going to be a mistake from a pure football standpoint.

There never was a situation where either Ou or uT leaving was good for them from a football standpoint. It was about the Benjamins in the ESPN superleague. If the superleague get headed off by the rest of college football as it appears it will, they are going to regret the move almost immediately.

This is the first USC post that actually makes sense to me

If Washington & Deboer is real, I don’t see Campbell going anywhere. Riley to USC won’t happen, Oklahoma will match any offer & probably extend him like Franklin/PSU. USC is in real trouble rn

Personally I won't start to feel better until we catch wind of what's going on with LSU. My anxiety about west coast stuff is coming down some.

if usc could afford riley, it might not be a bad move as I think it could become far more difficult for ou to compete for championships in the sec (and that fanbase is unreasonably demanding)

you run into the issue of the pac 12 being like a dying league, but if usc has deep pockets to support riley, I would think he could field a competitive squad in that league -- better fit than campbell imo and I just think ou would put him on the hot seat if he can't sustain the big 12 success in the sec

it's more likely that he has an agent who's throwing his name around everywhere to negotiate a bigger contract with ou

For coaching search novices, why does Deboer to Washington matter to USC?

I’d say maybe. I think the talent in-state always makes that job appealing but u have expectations that demands consistently conquering the gates of Mordor that’s defended by Navy Seal Uruk-hai. I’d pass on that unless they give me 10 years & a crazy buyout.
