It really is the most bizarre sport where it really doesn’t matter sometimes what you do on the field of play and we are all ok with it. It’s so freaking weird.
That unbeaten Patriots team didn’t actually lose the Super Bowl to the Giants. The Patriots were the best team easily so why did they even play that game.
My thought on Bama is they get a shot at the perceived best team in the country this week. They have their chance. If they lose they shouldn’t get a mulligan when there are other teams deserving and we don’t actually know how they would do against Georgia without seeing them play. And Cincy could get whipped by Georgia. Well fun fact so has everyone else.
I agree with your assessment.
Alabama is east for me, Win and they're In - Lose and they're Out. IMHO - it shouldn't even be up for debate.
Georgia becomes problematic if they lose. They probably still have the "eye test", which I think is BS.
I like to think the committee would pick an undefeated Cincinnati over a 1 loss Georgia team for the following reason. The point is to pick the National Champion, and if Georgia loses, they should be eliminated because Alabama would've just beaten them on a neutral field. Alabama shouldn't have to do that twice to win a NC, and neither should Georgia, or any other team for that matter.
The only caveat with this is if a 1 loss team's only lost is on the road to an undefeated Conference Champ - Ohio State could've been in this boat and been knocked out of a Conference Championship game due solely to whether a game was at home/away in certain years. This was all made moot by losing to Oregon, but it can definitely happen in some of these 2-division conferences.
