Fred/TJ paradigm
Matt/Scott paradigm

Questions of curses.
Why do Fred team look so much different than they did at ISU?
Was TJ the man behind the magic of Fred?
Has Nebraska ever won a tournament game? That is part of it. Nebraska sucks.

Fred's impact/value was never going to higher than it was at Iowa State. His brand and shtick largely built on the Mayor/hometown hero aspect. He is a good tactician and knows basketball, and good for him wanting to give his dream of being an NBA coach a try. But does he actually want to be Nebraska's coach, or is it just the best offer he had?

This has been hashed over ad nauseam. Fred struck lighting with a new style of play, new style of recruiting and the players that fit. What is happening at NU is now Hoiball is no longer novel, neither is the transfer market......and he has no Georges, Monte, Matt, Naz, Abdul etc.....and Fred either can't or won't adjust. TJ has and gone back to the future with motion offense and in your face defense.

That is false.

Even Steve ******* Prohm rebuilt his roster 8 years after Fred was hired with that "lighting in a bottle". Rules are more conducive to offense and tempo based coaches too.

It is not systemic changes. Fred changed, and changed locations. He recruited well when first getting to ISU, but similarly to nearly any coach before or after.

Fred's teams didn't play defense here either...
Nebraska was a top-40 defense last year. A tad better than the two top-55 defenses he had here.

He only had one Iowa St team playing defense as bad as his current NU team.

The Hoiberg teams generally played defense. Although it was not their best aspect, which often was elite offense.

Not playing defense was more of a Prohm thing.

Watching Nebraska playing Auburn at the moment. Nebraska has a terrible team and honestly I couldn’t care less about Fred. He had his choice to stay and build a dynasty or let his ego convince him that the NBA was the place to be. He chose wrong. CMC and TJO get it. Fred can go cash his buyout checks and spend the day on the golf course.

Nebraska's defense was "last" in the Big Ten in points allowed.
Nebraska's defense resulted in them being "last" in scoring margin.
Nebraska bad defense helped them in being "second to last" in rebounds allowed.
Nebraska bad defense helped them to be "last" in assist/turnover ratio.

Fred was Iowa State. Everyone associated with the program probably worked tirelessly to ensure victory at all costs because of who he was and what he meant to ISU. His transfer approach and offense was innovative.

Appears times have changed and everyone else is on that transfer train and he's NOT the Mayor of Lincoln. Honestly it'll be weird to fathom if he's fired in a year or two.

Nothing false about that post. Hoiberg's system needs elite offense players and he doesn't have them. The 3-pt line moved 2 ft further out a couple of years ago and that puts even more stress on his offensive scheme, which isn't novel anymore and coaches now know how to defend it better. His Nebraska team have been/are poor at rebounding, which gets exploited badly in conference play. If he can't adapt his offense to the skills of the players he has, and fix his rebounding, it will not end very well for him at NU.

Points allowed? Lol. You know the world has moved on to possession based metrics now, right?
And scoring margin has never been a measure of defense played. You do know how that is calculated?
Nebraska was with 5th in defensive rebounding. You do know total rebounds includes offensive rebounds?
A/TO? Is this a bot? That is like a third order measure of defense.

Try again. But much harder.

I used to really miss Fred especially in the last couple of years of He-Who-Came-Before-TJ, but I've seen enough from Otz so far that the main conclusions I've come to are:

1. I'm over Fred leaving and probably wouldn't trade TJ for anyone including Fred at the moment even if Fred will always be The Mayor. The more defensive focused style of play from this Otz team so far is a much more enjoyable watching experience than Hoiball, as much as I liked Hoiball.

2. Perhaps TJ was the key cog that made Hoiberg's wheel spin here?

Hoiberg is FAR worse at Nebraska than Miles ever was.

Michigan-102 Nebraska-67
Auburn-78 Nebraska-48 with just under 8 to play......right now.

What do your metrics tell you about those two scores...................it's Prohms fault?
