Ya'll want to talk about out-dated coaching gimics that time catches up with?.....watch the Cheez--it Bowl and Clemson's offense if we just go out there and "do what we do" on defense. I pray for some innovation and surprises.....Hell, you got a month! it isn't f&%%ing ME343 or whatever.

This has been hashed over ad nauseam. Fred struck lighting with a new style of play, new style of recruiting and the players that fit. What is happening at NU is now Hoiball is no longer novel, neither is the transfer market......and he has no Georges, Monte, Matt, Naz, Abdul etc.....and Fred either can't or won't adjust. TJ has and gone back to the future with motion offense and in your face defense.
Except McGowen is a higher ranked recruit than he ever got at ISU. Obviously you need more, but having a top 10 guy or whatever he was should allow you to build SOMETHING. But man they suck. There’s something deeply wrong that can’t be explained by simply losing the transfer and style of play novelty. After this season the Hoiberg era is going to be the worst era of the worst major college program.

Wait…are you saying we will struggle with Clemson’s offense?

If we line 3 guys for pass rush and lay back and never blitz....yes. The over-under on successful conversions on 3rd-and-15 plus for Clemson will be like 5. I'd take the over. Again, I'd like to think they could coach a corner blitz or two in certain situations as they are reviewing film...like now.

Have you watched Clemson play at all this year?

No Royce or Georges in Lincoln. Hoiball is a mirage without that type of player.

Fred was Iowa State. Everyone associated with the program probably worked tirelessly to ensure victory at all costs because of who he was and what he meant to ISU. His transfer approach and offense was innovative.

Appears times have changed and everyone else is on that transfer train and he's NOT the Mayor of Lincoln. Honestly it'll be weird to fathom if he's fired in a year or two.
Not if, when.

You would think there was more, but I have watched them play and it's the same type of stuff he ran here. People are having zero trouble defending it, and they cannot defend anyone. I know McGowen is higher ranked.......but does he actually fit? BDJ was a talent but man........wasn't the transfer we were use to. I just think it was the perfect storm at the time.

Listen, I don't enjoy ripping on Fred because I loved me some Fred when he was here and I never held it against him for leaving. But his type of ball requires not only talent but whatever mojo Georges and co. had. Whatever it is, he is really having trouble finding it again. And considering how many people who were here with him on the bench that are now with him in Lincoln...........how else to you explain it other than the novelty has worn thin?

Will Fred be at Nebraska a year from now?
I doubt they fire him. Nebraska kept Miles for seven years and Hoiberg is under contact through 2026. He gets paid $3.5 million every year till then. Would Nebraska be willing to pay him $10 million and then on top of that, Frost $7.5 million, if they fire Frost after the Indiana game (assuming I got my figures right; otherwise I stand corrected)?

I mean, there may be some truth to this, but it’s definitely not that simple. Fred has some talent that he has brought to Nebraska. They should be better than 5-6 right now.

It shouldn't be that simple but giving up 201 points the last two games might suggest otherwise.

That perspective hasn't worked very well for ISU.

Imo there's some indications that going back to a 4 man front may be helpful.

Just realized this is thread jacking but Nebraska basketball being an afterthought is just kind of how it goes.

Testifying
No one, and I mean no one should say Fred's teams play defense.
His Kenpom defenses have been (counting up from first ISU year):
89, 66, 123, 55, 59, 152, 40, 119.

He actually had offense at ISU to over come those but doesn't have the offense at Nebby.

That is false.

Even Steve ******* Prohm rebuilt his roster 8 years after Fred was hired with that "lighting in a bottle". Rules are more conducive to offense and tempo based coaches too.

It is not systemic changes. Fred changed, and changed locations. He recruited well when first getting to ISU, but similarly to nearly any coach before or after.
He would have recruited even better if he didn't have one foot out the door and told the 5 star recruits he didn't know if he would be there. It was a mistake IMO unless it was just about the money.
