Maybe some of you can clarify this or maybe I missed it previously.

We were recruiting 21 players prior to losing 11 to the transfer portal. With the cap at 25, we may have as many as 7 or more extra scholarships we can't give out.

Can we just give them to existing walk-ons in the programs? Do they have to be walk-ons for at least a year?
Could give them to walk-ons.

But there is a growing push by college football coaches to allow an exception above 25 scholarships for kids entering the transfer portal. Not sure if the coaches are proposing a 1 for 1 exception or a slightly bigger cap- aka 30.

If the transfer portal seemed crazy with college basketball, think what it will be like in football where there are 85 scholarship players.

Look I don’t mind you looking at this through rose glasses. However, with the crap ton of players we lose with graduation and now transfer, this isn’t good. This isn’t basketball where you can just plug in a couple transfers and compete. We need guys even for second and third string in football with injuries and so on.
That could be true.

But we also had a number if super seniors this season which resulted in their backups not getting many snaps, but they have another year in the program.

With Young, King, and Amos all leaving, I wonder if there was friction with Broomfield as their position coach?
Issues on the team may have been addressed leading to some transfers is certainly a possibility. Looking for greener pastures too, but not signing up for NIL big bucks.
Being closer to his family and child and he knows he can go to a big time school
ISU is not a big time school?

I mean CMC did it last year, NY6 Bowl Champ, Reg. Season B12 Champ... finished in the top 10, so clearly her CAN.
CMC had years to develop those guys, that's hardly random guys off the street.

Everyone running their mouths about 7-5 season should just keep their filthy mouths shut. CMC and his staff needs to be appreciated for saving a lot of ungrateful souls there in Ames from depression. Snowing outside, after a 2-10 season only to watch the useless Hawkeyes going to Tampa or California for a bowl game. Is that what you want? Because if CMC wasn’t there then I don’t know who would come and make ISU legit again. Let’s not forget where we are coming from. At least I live in Houston, I can go to strip clubs and get boobs in my face, go to really good restaurants and have some very good food, yes Houston has very good food in the whole of America. So
If CMC isn’t there then chances are you will be shoveling snow instead of going to a bowl game, so let’s not throw stones while living in a glass house. I do not want to keep reading nonsense about the 7-5 record. Learn to be grateful. Paul Rhoads was just dancing on the sidelines and giving you excuses and 3-9 every year, let’s not forget that. Hands off my Coach, he’s the best and he knows what he’s doing. We will be fine. Infact we are just fine. Now let me go make a donation to the athletic department. You should too instead of whining about a 7-5 as if you could do a better job yourself coaching this team, ridiculous!

Is there a chance Slovis could end up here? I know him and Purdy are off-season workout buddies.

Not an exact quote but according to business guru Jim Collins one thing you’ll see in an organization that is built on culture is turnover. Not every kid wants to buy into that kind of work ethic. It’s important that those who don’t buy in leave, the culture itself drives them out. Our basketball team may be an example. Opportunity just opened up for a bunch of kids.

Let’s hope this is the case.
