What will ISU be ranked?

I wear red socks for all the games. Been doing it for years. Does it help the teams win? Doubtful. Does it make me less anxious? Yup. So deal with it.

To me, high rankings are a mixed blessing. Yeah, it's cool to see our teams up there in the rankings. But we have a sad history of our teams dying ugly deaths when ranked.
Either they buy into the hype and think all they have to do is show up (UAB, anyone?) or they become a bigger target and get the best efforts of every team in the Big 12, and that's a helluva a grind.

So yeah, I'm wary of high rankings. Do I think it's a conspiracy curse? No, not really. But I've seen bad things happen when we're ranked, and I'm a Cyclone. I may not need a nut cup, but I definitely understand the desire for one. :D

I'm guessing he wouldn't be impressed that I decided to burn my beat Tech shirt from 2002 after wearing it for the Tech game this year.

.... okay I didn't, but I seriously considered it. Can't part with anything remotely associated with "THE RUN."

Anyone who has a 3 loss Iowa team ahead of ISU when they got blown out by 20 in head to head needs their credentials yanked. Who has Iowa even beat? Virginia is only P5 win and they also lost to Navy and James Madison?
Blame KenPom. Iowa is 19 spots higher than ISU, Xavier is 22 spots higher. Memphis is also several spots higher. That is why.

Is that because it’s still weighting late year or does it not do that?

Probably a KSU terd like that one guy that posts here. They hate us because they think they are us, but they’re not.
I live in KC..Kansan's in general are db's. I can't stand Bill Snyder because all he did was give Kstater's half a leg to stand on that they have anything going on in Manhattan. I don't even like the idea we're even considered rivals and wouldn't bug me a bit if we didn't play them. School's half the size of ISU in the middle of nowhere. Academic's aren't even close..why would we want them as a rival? I like to consider KU a rival in basketball and OSU/Baylor our chief rivals in football.

So complete hypothetical here (thought Torvik gives Iowa State a 32% chance to beat Baylor and a 58% chance to beat Texas Tech which is 19% to go 2-0 so it is difficult but not impossible for two home games) --

What would Iowa State be ranked if they start the Big 12 slate 2-0 and are 14-0 when the next set of rankings comes out?

The "they haven't beat anybody" crowd is going to shut right up if Iowa State can handle Baylor.

Pretty sure KU also views us as a rival based on this thread: (prepare to laugh) https://247sports.com/college/kansas/board/103719/Contents/least-favorite-fanbase-178763959/?page=1

Obviously depends what happens in front of us. I’m guessing 4 behind UCLA, Duke, snd Gonzaga if they handle their business. I do think we’d jump USC, KU, and Purdue. Arizona should be behind us after tonight. But media is in love with 3 aforementioned teams

Ranked? Should be #1, but likely #3 or something. It would not be because of SOR or "not beating anyone", which isn't the case now imo, as much as brand perception.

What would the predicted finish be? 3-4 games higher than now imo. Not only would two losses be flipped to wins, doing so would suggest future Ls are closer to Ws, with at least a couple flipped. I think that 8-10 or 9-9 goes to 12-6 or 13-5?

I know nuance is not fun, but I don't see much "they haven't beat anyone". We're ranked #9 with many metrics saying we should not be, even if just looking at this year. Nearly all fans and national people are rewarding the SOR (who have you beaten). I see a crowd saying "the 12 games do have limited predictive value, with many outcomes still possible, with consistently beating top-20 teams not yet likely.

Of course adding more games to the sample, two more more relevant ones, and wining, will change the outlook. Is this some big "gotcha moment"?

On the off chance Baylor wins, ...
Even if it's close, I expect we fall dramatically, even though it should only be a few spots.

If we lose a close one (<10 pts), we'll fall 2-3 spots depending on what other teams do. If we get run out of the gym, double that.

If we win, top 5. If we run them out of the gym then... I mean... that will be completely bananas.o_O

If we beat Baylor by 15+(not likely) we would likely see anywhere from 1-3.
