To be clear,I had zero expectations for this team. Just talking about the NCAA tourney is just beyond ridiculous. No sane person thought this would happen. If we fall to NIT, I would very mildly disappointed after the start but would still think the program is ahead of schedule.

To be fair NIT should even be in the discussion right now. We need to find 6 more wins to get in which shouldn't be that difficult.

I think we'll get to 7 wins but I wouldn't say it won't be difficult. It's a generally overused cliché but there really is no bottom this year in the Big 12. TCU and KState will look bad conference record wise in the end but neither are a bad team. I would sign up for 3-1 against those two... I doubt we sweep both. We always struggle to win in Fort Worth especially it seems.

Fwiw, for these updates I'll include my previous projection and what I think would be seeding if tournament started to-day.

Current forecast: 8
LW: 7
Snapshot: 4

Dropped it one line, only because I saw add'l exposure of our vulnerable areas.

I think we can get 6 more, but to say "shouldn't be that difficult" is an overstatement, imo. Road wins are just plain tough to come by. While there's more to winning the game than the roster, I'm not sure we aren't 'out-talented' by 70% of the Big12 teams. Teams like Memphis, Iowa, Creighton, and Xavier seemed to have been surprised/unexpecting of our team's style/defensive performance. Big12 coaches have had plenty of scouting opportunities now that they really know what to take away. Brockington first and foremost. Having said that I'd be pleased with a 7-11, 8-10 conference record this first year, especially with the turnover and a freshmen point guard.

Just as we did a few weeks ago, let's check in on fan confidence now after the TT and OU games:

What seed do you think Iowa State men will receive for the NCAA Tournament?

And no, there is not a poll: I want to see individual responses and track each user as we do this bi-weekly until tournament time.

9. I was at 6 last time and am probably overreacting, but I want to see some offensive and defensive adjustments (OU beat our double teams really well -- even if the guys were just tired, gotta change something up and not give up a layup line to end the game) before I project a better seed again.

Edit: I'm also not thinking about specific wins and losses right now, except for beating Texas at home out of the next 3. Go 1-2 against at KU, home vs Texas, at Tech to get to 14-4 and 2-4, and then we're into a much easier stretch.

7, but this week will be critical. If we lose both, I'd say we're looking more at the 9-10 range. The Texas game is huge to avoid the 1-5 league start.

This team will not make the NCAA tournament.
I think we’ll get in. But I think we’ll be anywhere from 8-10 seed. Which honestly is fine with me. I wasn’t even sure if we would win 13 games this season.
