Also I thought this thread would be about the Mount Rushmore of Cyclone wrestlers which is a good idea. Mine would be
1. Cael
2. Gable
3. Nate Carr
4. Jake Varner
5. Harold Nicolls

I know I am missing some really good wrestlers

Good to see, but I'd say that's a little high. Dual wins are nice, but the sport is all about the tournament. I'd be very surprised if we are in the top 5 in March and even top 10 will take a good performance.

Agreed. This team is definitely a stronger dual than tournament team, but still an impressive coaching job by Dresser and staff this year to take a pre-season 20-25 ranked team into the top 5 for dual ranking.

I disagree with this. Having a great dual team is fun for me and my family to come watch. Makes coming to the duals all season enjoyable and more people in the seats. Lots of average fans show up to home duals and enjoy a tough line up with exciting matches. Elite wrestling fans focus on Nationals and say that’s all that matters, but the season is long and it all counts.

I wish there was a stronger emphasis on duals/some sort of national tournament with the top 12 dual teams. Would be great for the sport as the average/non-diehard fan would find more entertainment in a national dual tournament

Which is why it sucks that with this team being as solid as they turned out to be that ToE was the only team worth their salt to come to Hilton.

I agree with you but we have been starved for way too long. ISU should always be a top 5 program. Hopefully this is just the start

Couldn’t agree more. So much energy is a good dual back and forth with both sides yelling and cheering on their guys. That’s more fun for most fans than Nationals I’d say.

How about conference championship? What are our chances at that? It would be a tremendous accomplishment.

Harold Nichols was a great coach, but he wrestled at the University of Michigan:
Here he is on Letterman in 1983 -- they talk on the phone some prior to this, when Dave calls him up in Ames, but he first appears at about 11:00, with the world's largest vase:

I included him because he was the architect of a great program

I hope people will come out this weekend for the duals. This team is fun to watch and David Carr is an incredible wrestler to see in person. Yonger Bastida is equally impressive when you're talking about how fast and powerful a guy is at his size.
