True but it has to start somewhere right?

Big Tobacco is probably laughing as nicotine salt vaping is sweeping the country, previous vapers would have been freebase nicotine vapers, salts came onto the scene last few years, 10x more addicting and doesnt burn the throat like freebase.

Yes this could work, nicotine is up there with heroin and meth on addiction scale and completely pointless, the buzz of nicotine can be mimiced by spinning around in a circle and getting dizzy.
Not sure about that. I smoked a pack of cigarettes for years and quit. It sucked to be sure, but I was able to carry on with my normal day to day activities. I can't speak to meth and heroine, but either detoxing from those is way overplayed in shows and movies or they aren't close to the same as cigarettes.

I read recently that smoking has made a bit of a comeback. Mostly due to COVID boredom last year, and the social aspect of it in 2021 as people flooded back out to bars, ready to party, with a lot more drinking going on in outside areas.
Just proves how dumb and non-senscial people are. You would think a new serious lung disease in humans would be enough get the smoking rate down but of course it's the opposite.

You're comparing addiction vs. withdrawal. Tobacco has nearly no physical withdrawal affects. The addiction is incredibly strong.

I dont think nicotine is physically that hard to quit, I have also quit and its mentally hard like those others, but you dont get dope sick like heroin.

I think he was making the point that it’s as addictive as the other drugs not that withdrawals are equal to quitting them. Just the fact that if you try it it’s as likely that you will again.

So it was so funny what the FDA did, they crushed all the little guys in the vaping industry by saying you cannot ship vaping juice, it can only be sold in local stores, then Big Tobacco went in and got in all the big chains and bam thats how its done, see the FDA is useful.

Late 90s early 2000s bars and restaurants still had smoking sections? The night after a bar your clothes were beyond disgusting. Nowadays I roll of to a stop light and the car next to me has a smoker… With windows up I swear I can smell it and it makes me cringe. So Disgusting. Crazy how much my perception has change in 20-25 years.

When I moved to Madison mid-2000s the indoor smoking ban was still fresh but the difference was huge compared to when I'd go back to C.R. and went out. My hangovers had to be magnified by soaking in all the cig smoke.

Former smoker here. Smoked for close to 20 years. I feel like the anti-smoking campaigns of the last 20-30 years have done a fantastic job in limiting smoking. Between them and some of the judgements against them, the tobacco lobby is nowhere near as powerful as it used to be.
I wish I had never started smoking in the first place, and I am lucky to have developed no long term problems from my years as a smoker.

With that said, I don't think it should be illegal to purchase tobacco. Ban smoking in public? Fine. Tax the hell out of it? Sure. Put giant warnings all over the packs? You bet. I'd even be fine with making it against the law to smoke around a minor or pregnant woman. But if I want to go into my back yard and smoke a cigarette, I should be able to do that, as stupid and unhealthy as it may be.

By raising taxes you’re punishing current smokers who are already hooked. By denying sales to those not old enough to buy yet you eliminate them from ever getting addicted.
By your rationale you don't care, you just want what you think is best. You are not concerned with current smokers or tobacco users.

And by 'you' I don't mean you personally.

The majority of current smokers will tell you that they wish they could quit. So why not do everything we can to help future generations from getting addicted to a drug that only empties their wallets and possibly kills them?
Well yes, but if you want to enact laws on this or that, someone else always has a differing opinion. If you wish to have your freedoms taken away perhaps become a communist or emigrate to a communist country?

I'm not saying it's not the best choice, to make tobacco and vaping illegal. I'm saying that it's not following our nations principles of freedom.

Besides, as pointed out by another poster, prohibition rarely works as intended.

That said, I still don't know.

Just that it’s more likely kids will do it if a parent does. It’s still their choice but I’m guessing not something you would want them to do.

My dad is a smoker, so yes I grew up with it. I have 2 daughters and they hate my chewing. Hopefully they dont start tobacco. But I can't control everything they do. They are both under 10 btw.

I’m all for people to quit smoking. Not sure I’m for this though.

I’d rather legalize everything else rather than create new issues trying to ban another substance.

Was watching a show the other day where they went to a restaurant and were asked smoking/no smoking, caught me off guard just how old it made it feel.

Who does? Does anyone ever really look back and say "I'm glad I picked that up"?
