I keep saying it, but TJ's post game comments consistently sound like he's missing the point. I'm getting worried he's gonna keep going all in on defense-above-anything-else (or effort, w/e) when it's clear it's an offensive skill/scheme issue more than anything.

This is the team he has and you can’t pick up new guys now. The team knows it can’t win an up and down game.

The players have something to do with the way the season is going. To think that players take no responsibility and leave because the blame is only on the coaching staff is silly.

Pretty sure this is where we are in sports these days.

It would have been extremely easy to say "we've gotta be better on the offensive end" or even allude to that when you lose by 15 at home and give up less than 60. TJ put the blame entirely on the defensive end.

Either way, they aren't winning playing slowly either. So I'm not sure your point.

It stopped because they play teams that don’t suck.
Hot take maybe, but I think we find out the Big 12 isn't as great as we think it is. Very tough, but I think we have a very poor NCAA Tournament as a conference overall. Hope I am wrong and the Big 12 just dominates like the Pac-12 last year so it will make me feel a bit better. But I can see it now where we have one team make the second weekend.

Gabe/Grill from three on this four game losing streak:
  • Grill is 4-20
  • Gabe is 3-15
  • Arguably our 'best' two three point threats are 7 for 35...that's 20%. JFC that is bad.
Couple THOSE numbers with the following numbers from the last four games and we're seeing how easy it is for teams to focus on IB and Hunter, etc and why worry about anyone else?
  • Conditt points last four games: 7, 0, 7, 0
  • Jones points last four games: 0, 5, 1, 2
Our post players aren't doing anything, literally, to take away from opponents focusing more on our guards. They're averaging 5 points per game COMBINED.

Holy Moses...

The offseason checklist looks something like this

1. Beg and plead with Brockington to come back
2. Ask some guys to not come back. Enaruna is done so we'll be even on schollies but we need more shooters still. Probably 2 of Conditt, Jones, and Gabe need to go.
3. Go all out in the transfer portal for 2 more scorers. Dont care how they do it, but we badly need people who can put the ball in the hoop.

EDIT: I had it pointed out to me elsewhere that someone like Gabe or Conditt wouldn't count against us next year because of the covid season. So you don't have to boot them right out, but look to recruit over them

This team is deficient in so many spots. Our posts needs are especially glaring. It’s amazing how much Otz has gotten out of this group.
Yep. The fact we got to this spot at all is a massive credit to him. It's not like he's Prohm and falling apart with an impact transfer and one of the best recruiting classes in program history. I'll be on his ass if we're pulling the same **** in 2-3 years but for now, even with how much all this **** sucks, we're so far ahead of where we should be

He keeps talking about toughness, urgency and effort. I hope it's coach speak because if not it's going to be a long ride.

Could happen and I agree to an extent but that doesn't take away that top to bottom it's really a tough conference.

ISU didn't have to play lights out vs. Missouri or Iowa and they cruised in those games. They don't get games vs. 'gimme' types. Today sucked as KSU isn't good but they're at least in the bubble discussion I think.

We'd get smoked by Iowa today. Smoked.

I think 16-16 will get them in the NIT
The NIT uses the NET Rankings (or whatever the NCAA) uses to pick teams. So, ISU should get in with at least a .500 record. Not going to get a home game though with Hilton being used for the NCAA Women's Tournament, so I say send the Cyclones to Drake for a first round game.

Here's the thing. If this team is as limited as everyone claims, then maybe they are playing as hard as they can.

Is a team full of role players/non-stars from generally average to bad former teams that can't shoot a basketball very well going to not be limited?

Why is everyone obsessed about Trey's minutes? He played 9 today and he's averaging 14 on the season. His minutes have been sporadic all season and with Walker getting a few minutes lately that will eat into his some. Enaruna DNP after starting every game is the statement to be talked about IMO.

Hate to say it but TJ got out coached badly by Weber in the 2nd half. KSU made adjustments and we reverted to the same crappy offense that takes bad shots, doesn't make smart passes, and didn't move the ball well. This poor stretch of play seems like the other team has done a better job making adjustments at halftime than we do. Yes we are limited with offensive talent but we went away from what worked well in the 1st half and played timid late in the game I thought.

No I mentioned this in another thread that two things can be true when someone said Iowa was clearly a better team than we are. I said in there that despite our skid, we got to play one of those bottom teams in another P6 conference (Missouri) like Iowa gets the benefit of doing, and we beat the hell out of them.

However, yes the Big 12 has zero off nights BUT we did beat Tech and Texas at home (don't really care about how or the circumstances), beat Oklahoma State in Stillwater and we also had KU beat in Allen Fieldhouse if that goaltend is called and still were a wide open miss at the buzzer from winning. Getting housed by TCU and losing to K State at home is completely unacceptable. Neither of those two teams are some juggernaut. Just average to decent teams.

It felt a bit like they started playing not to lose once the game tightened up. I suppose that's sort of what comes with the territory when you're playing through a rough patch. I'm not really worried about the tourney at this point but just for the team's sake I hope they can find a way to finish strong(er).

Now do when they play someone with a pulse.
Bingo. Iowa is going to get curb stomped in the NCAA Tournament just like normal. Maybe they get a lucky draw in the 1st Round, but the second they play anyone that is athletic and plays defense they are cooked, and it won't be pretty.
