When we played fast and pushed the tempo we jumped out to a lead, and we were driving and kicking. Then we went back to the same ****** offensive sets and settling for dumb shots. That's all coaching.

TJ then threw the guys under the bus on his post game interview with Walter's and Heft saying they "need to play more urgent and show effort and he's only going to play the guys who show effort and urgency".

Well TJ I don't see you showing any urgency standing on the sidelines, armed crossed, biting on your finger while the refs make horrible calls right in front of you. You want the team to show effort then you show effort fighting for your team with the refs.

He said that?

Coaches always take responsibility for their teams performance publicly

Even Brock is limited, literally can not go right. He’s just a warrior, and a grown ass man.
This. Love Brockington, and the guy is why we have had any offense at times. You do make a great point though. He refuses to go right. I've been paying more attention to the defense played on him in man to man, and it's insane some guys are playing perpendicular on his left side and sometime borderline behind is left hip giving him a free lane to the right because they know he won't take it. And they are right, he won't do it.

The players have something to do with the way the season is going. To think that players take no responsibility and leave because the blame is only on the coaching staff is silly.

Not blaming anything on the coach. Never said that in my statement nor implied that. What I did imply was players know when they are getting passed over and/or arent fitting what the coach's style wants. So they leave. Having said that, some guys have used their automatic transfer so they only get one, right?

Yes. I was already pissed about the game and I heard him say that and I was irate.

I think what makes me mad about that stuff (and this isn't the first time he's said it) is that it implies that if the players play harder and tougher they'll win. But at some point the coach has to do something to help them win.

That isn't changing for next year. Unless you think one of those freshman is going to be a scorer, it's going to be similar,

I think the coaching staff is smart enough to know they have to be aggressive in the transfer portal this spring. I expect the Clones will have at least 7 new players on next year's roster (including King). Pretty clear in addition to the 3 freshman we will need to find 3 wing scorers and an assertive rim protector.

You're right, at the level that ISU recruits, to expect freshman to be anything more than role players is to set oneself up for failure. Surprises mean upside.

This is the so true I wish I could double up vote. TJ is getting out coached and you are blind if you don’t see it

Yea, there are some talent issues with talent in our forwards, but there is glaring coaching issues. Guess I’ll hope it gets better, but I’m back to being concerned about Otz’s coaching abilities as I was before November. There’s a reason so many didn’t like the hire.

Likely unfair but I'm currently more intrigued by ISU football's reset next year than basketball. But, the transfer portal is only more wild every year so perhaps things work out.

I agree, the roster will look completely different.

There will come a point where he will need to have some continuity, but not in year two.

If he’s overhauling the roster like that 3 years from now, that’s bad. But he’s got to get more good players in the program.

I am still struggling to reconcile our start with what we're seeing now. We didn't just look average, we looked pretty darn good. And now we haven't just reverted to average, we mostly look pretty darn bad.

I worried we were on a magic carpet ride in the preseason and we'd meet reality in the Big 12. But those first few league games proved we belonged. I suppose it could be as simple as having enough games under our belt to be adequately scouted, but I have to think something else is going on. We just look broken.

It's sad. I hope we can pull out of this freefall.

Probably scouting. Our defense led to a lot of easy fast break points. Also, the Big 12 is strong top to bottom.

It'll be really interesting who he decides to keep and who gets kicked to the curb. That will tell us a lot.

Not this year. He needs some holdovers, just to have guys that have been through it before

You’re right, though, it will be interesting to see who is shown the door.

I keep saying it, but TJ's post game comments consistently sound like he's missing the point. I'm getting worried he's gonna keep going all in on defense-above-anything-else (or effort, w/e) when it's clear it's an offensive skill/scheme issue more than anything.
I mean, I think he would go all in on offensive now if he could. We don't have the guys other than Brockington and sometimes Hunter. Scheme isn't going to suddenly make Gabe drop 6 3s again or suddenly turn anyone else into a 15ppg guy.

I actually forgot that covid guys wont count against our schollies so we dont necessarily need to kick anyone out. We should ideally see significantly less of certain players though next year.

Is that the case? I think this year didn't count against our scholarships. But next year will. At least it was that way with football.

To be honest I am really god damn confused with all this but I'm pretty sure they won't count against us
