Weber is a rich man and 65-years old. I'm not sure he would be interested in another head coaching gig. He's very religious. I could see him wanting to spend some years in that direction.

Today, I'd say look at the standings. If that doesn't do for you, then ...

Ku clearly the best job with a rich albeit filthy winning tradition.
WVU clearly the worst due to travel across this league; Huggs has said as much.
Texas is second with all its resources and location.
Baylor has the Baptist, private school advantage that's proved worthy.
The others, throw 'em in a bag, shake it, and pull out names.
What's your K-State board version?

He could be building a MVC powerhouse at Drake and waiting for Creighton or Iowa to open up.
If GMac turned down Ohio State, I wonder if he's there for the long haul.
Iowa is winning enough and there's still a McCafe on the way in a few years....

Yeah...I suppose he could be targeting a specific job or two...but that only works if they are targeting him. In the meantime...things can go cold and neither one of those schools would hire him. That would be a big gamble to take (turning down KSU...who knows if they would be interested though).

Bruce gets his last shots here in postgame. He's a good dude and a great coach with talent. Generous. Quirky. Clean. But couldn't close enough to keep it going. He'll retire a rich man with B12 championship banners hanging in the rafters. Good for him. #emaw

Two conference titles and an Elite 8 in a decade at K-State. I know he wasn't great the last 3 years but going to be very tough to replace that.

Yep pretty much says it all right there.

So, since Weber resigned instead of being fired, does he get a payout? I would imagine he has some kind of deal like I will resign so the AD doesn't look like a bad guy, but I want my money.

It'd be stupid for Underwood to leave Illinois. Illinois in basketball can be a consistent high level school with the talent available in the Chicago area. The school has never been able to capitalize on it.
Bill Self finished top 2 in the Big Ten all three seasons at Illinois. They just need to hire the right coach and keep him.

Underwood is not leaving Illinois. That would be like Bill Self leaving Ku for oSu. Or back in the day, Jack Hartman leaving K-State for Stillwater. Brad has a great job with all the resources in Urbana. He's not moving to Manhattan to take on an in-state blue blood. If he does, he's more loyal than smart.

Nijel Pack is about to be the #1 transfer on the market.
IU, Purdue, Butler are all close to home in Indy. I would not be surprised. But Nijel is a thoughtful youngster with a good family. He'll likely wait see. Although, he was obviously distraught after last night's game sitting beside coach Weber listening to his farewell in the postgame presser.

For anyone like me who wasn't aware of KSU's "tradition," I looked it up. Apparently Kansas State was a top 10 or top 20 program pre-1990? They had a bunch of sweet sixteen and elite eight appearances through the 80s, but their four final four appearances are before 1965.

I'm sure KSU fans make fun of Nebraska football for leaning on their tradition, but at least Nebraska was a top 5 program in the 90s and still has the fan and football support that came from it. I don't see how a possible coach - except maybe one that already has historical ties to the program - is supposed to care about the program being pretty good 30+ years ago.

If you just want to compare Iowa State and K-State since 1990...
NCAA Appearances
ISU - 15
KSU - 12
Round of 32
ISU - 11
KSU - 5
Sweet Sixteens
ISU - 4
KSU - 2
Elite Eights
ISU - 1
KSU - 2
Big 12/Big 8 Regular Season Titles
ISU - 2
KSU - 2
Big 12/Big 8 Tournament Titles
ISU - 6
KSU - 0

This isn't me saying that Iowa State has incredible basketball tradition, just saying that it's ridiculous to think that a coach in the hiring process would think that Kansas State has any meaningful tradition.
KSU was strong in the "70's or so when Jack Hartman was coach. He was quite successful playing a 3 -2 zone defense and a very slow deliberate offensive (prior to the shot clock).
