I am watching the Gonzaga Georgia St game, and it was 56 to 58. I warned Lew (he was in the garage) that he might want to come in & watch as Gonzaga is his pick for champ. Gonzaga immediately went on a 21-0 run. All of you who picked Gonzaga, you owe Lew a Pepsi. :D

ok the part where Iowa lost was really good but the part where Kentucky ken- ****-yed it up was less good for my bracket that possibly definitely had Kentucky winning

I lucked out. Had Iowa and UK in the Sweet 16, but no further. Also picked a couple other upsets, so I'm happy with Day 1. Let's hope another upset I picked comes to fruition this afternoon/evening.

I didn't allow the Hawks out of the second round. :D

Also, I would like to announce that I am in 691820 place (out of about 2.5 million) in the CBS sports pool. I'm in the top 1/3!!!

Used to run a pool, awarded 3 pts for first and second round winners, 2 pts for third and fourth rounds, 5 pts for each Final 4 winner, and 10 points for the Champion. 50% of entry fees to the winner, 30% to second place, 20% to third place.

Most upsets occur in the early rounds, so this system awarded those upset picks. And then most get knocked out in the third and fourth rounds, more favorites moving on, so less reward for picking those favorites.

By the Final 4 mostly favorites remaining. But some always get upset, so reward for picking the Final 4 winners out of those surviving. And then the Champion is almost always among the favorites, but which one, biggest reward for the right pick.

Someone could do well in the early rounds but not pick the Champion, and still finish in the top 3, ie win a little $$. Conversely, could do poorly in the early rounds but do well with good picks in the Final 4/Championship. And didn't HAVE to pick the Champion to win the pool, although rare not to have done so.

Most pools are heavily weighted towards picking the Champion, so if your pick loses the pool is over for you, might as well go watch American Idol or HGTV reruns. Really stinks if it's in an early round. With this system, there was still SOME hope even if your pick got knocked out, and reason to continue following the pool.

I use the standard scoring, but this sounds intriguing. I may put those numbers into our pool for a comparison to see how much it changes things up.

Me, too. And yet I'm not sad at all.

On Wisconsin
I like to think most fans don't mind WI but maybe not.
The fan base as a whole? Probably not. And CF? Maybe not in a vacuum, but fans on here unreasonably hate the big 10, so it's not going to be great. I think Big 10 fans can sometimes be too full of themselves, but I think CF goes too far in the other direction.

Plus, we know what the game threads and post game threads will be like (and not by everyone, but enough that it won't be enjoyable).

During the game:
Towards Iowa State players: "X ******* sucks, why is he playing? T.J. needs to pull him."
Towards Wisconsin: "Your team is dirty," "the refs are bailing you out all game," you suck," "the big 10 sucks"

After the game:
If Iowa State wins: "Wisconsin ******* sucks," and "the Big 10 sucks"
If Wisconsin wins: "you won because of the refs," "you still suck," "your team is dirty," etc.

None of that sounds enjoyable

Edit: fixed typos
