You won't even believe the "find money to convince Coach K to unretire here" take I've got cooking up.My 'why didn't ISU get Dana Altman or Jay Wright?!' thread is in my drafts.

That all looks about right.PREDICITION:
When Miami has the ball: Gonna be strength on strength. Miami has a few guards that can fill it up and get out in transition. Yet ISU has some of the best defensive guards in the country (Hunter, GK, IZB). Will be a fun matchup to watch. They don't have any threatening bigs so would expect the majority of their scoring will come from their perimeter players.
When Iowa State has the ball: Miami's defense is ranked 121st in the nation... (that's 54 spots behind KState, who was rated as the worst defensive team in the B12 for some context). Even with Iowa States offensive struggles this year I think they will be able to score plenty tonight. I look for IZB to go for 20+ and get the Cyclone's to 70+, a winning number.
Overall: This will be a close game, as expected. Miami will make runs and most likely hit some tough shots. Iowa State will force them to turn it over and get them out of rhythm at times as well. One of the keys to this game will be rebounding and the Cyclones have a clear edge here. Miami is one of the WORST offensive rebounding teams on the country (ranked 318th) and they aren't much better on the defensive glass either (264th). Clones should control the boards. Another key will be fouls/FT's if the refs call it close the Iowa State may get into deep foul trouble and allow Miami to shoot a ton of FT's which isn't a great recipe.
Final: Cyclone's will have the home court advantage and really have an opportunity to come out and be the aggressor. If they do so, and I think they will, behind their tenacious defense and IZB's leadership, they will be headed to the Elite 8.
Score: ISU 74 - Miami 67
#4 Bensley Joseph is their only shooter off the bench (they don't play many bench minutes at all). He went 15-36 (42%) on the season.Agreed. I don't look at the guys that average double figures. I look at what guy averaging <5 is ready to go 5-7 from 3.
I agree with the patience that need we need to play with. Miami is 296th (atrocious) in FG percentage given up. Therefore, they give up a lot of easy buckets and we need to find those. Open threes will be an added bonus IMO, and if thats the case should be in great shape. That all looks about right.
We haven't been a great offensive rebounding team since the Iowa game and given Miami's penchant to run, this probably isn't the game to change that. I think it'll just be a low offensive rebounding game both ways.
One thing to watch for when Miami is on Offense is the "secondary break" or early offense - they are going to try to get their guards Iso situations early, before our defense is set with rotations. Getting back and recognizing the rotations quickly is a defensive key
On Defense, Miami likes to "scramble" and provide initial pressure, preventing teams from getting into their sets/action. But once you break that initial push (and don't turn it over), then they really struggle with rotations and close outs - giving up easy baskets at the rim and open jumper looks. Being patient and working through their initial pressure is going to be key.
They are going to try to speed the game up. We don't need to necessarily slow it down, we need to match their speed on our defensive end while being patient and deliberate on offense. If we let their offense speed up our offense we're going to get in trouble with quick shots and turnovers and runouts.
If we're locked in and make open 3s, I feel really good about this game and we should end up in the 75+ pt range
Two things:Ballsy. Even if ISU won, I could find a way to be pissed about losing $500.
Another key. They are not deep. They have 5 guys who play 70% of mins or more. (probably a reason why they struggle on D) We can wear em down and take advantage.#4 Bensley Joseph is their only shooter off the bench (they don't play many bench minutes at all). He went 15-36 (42%) on the season.

Different women? You have multiple firstborn childs?!
Nah - look back in 10 years and that Elite 8 banner is well worth $500.Ballsy. Even if ISU won, I could find a way to be pissed about losing $500.
I meet with a group of guys for coffee on Friday mornings. One of the hawk fans was wearing Iowa State gear this morning. Another hawk fan mentioned that he might have to switch allegiances as well.
I actually love your rationale. Not sure I could do it myself, but I respect you for it. That said, I too, hope you lose your money! Two things:
1. I have these funds to spare and was hoping to make it home for a football or basketball game this past season. Didn’t happen so this $500 was already earmarked and budgeted for a trip that didn’t happen.
2. As noted in my post. I have rationalized that it’s no different then spending that money to see the game live. I have a great setup to watch here at home and there’s no downside. I was out the money by “going to the game” and got to see us make the Elite 8, which is such a rare thing I will cherish that forever. Or we lose and I walk away pocketing an extra $357.
I’m good either way but dammit I hope I lose the cash tonight.
They have a couple of 24-year olds I believe. Seriously move on with your life already.
2 month at home goes to bed around 730/8 so i don't mind the 9 tip. i wont be trying to get him to sleep at the time.
