For the umpteenth time....JP can't direct NIL fundraising
"JP managed to raise $5 mil to pay Prohm to not be here anymore (actually $10 mil to snag Otz as well). Thus, I think it's plausible WE'RE capable of raising significantly less to keep Tyrese."
I said JP was able to fundraise money for the coaching change, I did not say JP would be responsible for directing the NIL deals. Although I think its naive to think ADs are not having open conversation with their donors in the NIL process.

Umm football has been an impossible endeavor for all but around 10 teams for over a decade…

You don't understand our culture.

The battle for us has been to just be .500. I'm not talking about competing for NCs.

We were just barely starting to get there for pretty much the first time ever and had our one season in the sun (as one of the oldest D1 programs) winning a Fiesta Bowl.

I can tell you're a contrarian sunshine pumper but you're a moron thinking these changes aren't going to make it even more difficult.

It was already hard. It's going to get harder. College sports advantage is popular brands in every region including regions like Iowa that don't even have pro sports. Bust that popularity in every region and the golden goose is dead.

With 50 or so exceptions across both sports these players are not worth NBA/NFL money. Their market values without tax payers and alumni subsidized brand is that of a G League player or AA baseball player.

ISU has to get with the times if we're going to compete. That's obvious. But I just can't get with the amount of money being thrown around. Every player in college football and basketball is now a free agent. This has nothing to do with our schools. It's really sad as there is nothing I love more than college athletics. It's all just so slimy and the exact opposite reason I started watching these sports.

I don't blame the players for getting their piece of the pie. The NCAA has absolutely screwed the pooch on ushering in this new era, and the conference suits have lost sight of what made these sports great. It's the name on the front of the jerseys. It's the loyalty and fanaticism of the fanbases. If that starts to deteriorate, I couldn't give a **** less about who is on the court/field.

Just frustrating. I guess we know what it feels like to be a mid major now.

I don't think there's anything more Iowa State could've done to get him to stay. That absolutely sucks, but I guess that's how it is now. We have a lot of other key players and good recruits coming to Iowa State. While this one absolutely hurts, there's a lot more to look forward to for Iowa State than losing one piece of the puzzle. It's time to keep doing what Iowa State does best - prove people wrong.

The people that leaked this out early wanted the narrative about this to be NIL. Let’s see if that holds up.
You could see a school leaking this to try to beat out UNC since they were mentioned before he actually entered the portal, if the NCAA hadn’t already proven that they will let them get away with anything.

I don’t think you should go and trash the kid but all the sanctimonious “good for you” comments under his post make me sick
i for one would have just rather seen his followers drop by 50k and nobody at all comment.

After that circus on Friday night there are some people with egg on their faces today. It'll be fascinating to get the back story on this.

Wish his statement was more candid. “I’m going to enter the transfer portal to see what financial opportunities are out there for me”

Would that have made you feel better? Honestly I thought the statement was as good as it could possibly be.

It's this.

And the big question is will college sports continue to be popular coast to coast when the 40 of the 70 major conference teams now are mid-majors.

It could be a double whammy with realignment. If mega-conference becomes 30 teams on the inside and everybody else out...and because of teams like Vandy/NW/MissSt/Rutgers getting grandfathered in, you could have half of that megaconference as the only teams that can pay NBA/NFL salaries to players. I really think the ratings and streaming interest for a product like that is just going to absolutely tank compared to present day.

Basketball can hang on longer because of the insanity of the the tourney format. It's a spectacle, and I'd still be interested just for that one Thurs-Sunday a year. Football would lose my interest no matter how they set up a playoff.

In 5-10 years the money I spend in the fall for ISU football will probably be allocated elsewhere. College sports as we know is over.
Lol, as soon as the players start getting any of the money it’s all of a sudden over. When the players were getting screwed by coaches following the money whenever they wanted it was still fine.

No one cares about the G-League. If college hoops want to be the G-League, OK then but the money will dry up. You're 100% right that the reason college hoops exists is for the name on the front of the jersey. We appreciate the names on the back, sure, and it couldn't exist without athletes but I'd still go to Cyclone games pretty much to watch anyone even if the talent level was a bit lower.

The NBA needs to go back to allowing HS kids to be drafted, not just offering a G-League path. At this point, college hoops would be better off removing most of the guys who will end up playing in the NBA from the game. Let them become pros right away and make money off their games, and let the 90-95% of other D1 players who will never see a minute of NBA action continue to provide entertainment on college campuses across the country.

Going to be nearly impossible to maintain any level of stability going forward at Iowa State. I do feel for TJ in that regard.
