This is a huge pet peeve of mine: random Twitter people using the names of star athletes in their Twitter handle. That same poster had a bunch of people fooled a couple weeks ago too when the Tyrese Hunter news broke. People thought they were actually replying to Jalen when it's just some random 13 year old probably.
I know that the daughter of a friend of mine had to jump through extra hoops to get her name on her Facebook account because she has the same name as a celebrity. Apparently she had to prove to them that it was actually her name. Apparently none of that in Twitterverse.

The problem is not that the kids are getting paid, it’s the “one or two years and gone” _without warning_. Even the pros don’t have that.

I think this gets sorted out because there won’t be enough “quality” content for all the sports networks otherwise.

If someone like Hutchinson transferred like this, then the $ speculation might be accurate. I kind of doubt its the case for a guy that hasn't played a whole lot yet.
??? He was playing a ton the last half of the season. He was playing great. He was as locked in as a starter as anyone on the team.

It’s not like it takes much to beat what he can get here on pay to play.

Seems odd to me because there are lots of P5 schools that McDonald probably wouldnt be the starter. I doubt there’s much $ out there for someone to be a backup safety. My gut says this isnt NIL related. But I’ll be interested to see the explanation

It will be interesting to see if he was contacted by an agent. Also it will be interesting to see if some of the players end up not finding a home and end up in division AA.

IIRC, I read something recently where some of the players entering the portal weren't finding homes. Some names were still in there from last season. So either they quit playing when they couldn't find a place or dropped way down the hierarchy of divisions.

I know this sounds melodramatic and knee-jerk, but I’ve been thinking about this all week; I am quickly losing interest in college athletics. If the FB or Bball season were starting in a month, I’m not sure I’d even be watching at this point.

I was actually more interested in this next season for football than last season because of what I saw out of guys like McDonald, Freylor, etc. but as this stuff continues the excitement is waning.

Could it also mean we are switching to a more traditional 4-3 because of our DT talent so we will be playing less 3 safety?

You guys are really being dramatic over losing 1-2 starting safeties. Name one other starter we lost due to new college rules. (And Craig likely may not be due to that)

You guys act like Will McDonald left for an NIL deal

I saw the headline of McDonald transferring and I panicked.

so the twitter guy who first texted "its about the money" later tweets he has since found out what he earlier tweeted is false and good luck to Craig at his new school. So any update on other possible reasons?
