Encouraged to be reminded of the experience on offense. A few new faces, but highly regarded ones. Defensive backfield looks shallow after the starters, but I'm sure there's talent there.
To me the 4 of the 5 DBs are set, the newly vacated Safety spot seems...dicey? I would like to see us get a transfer for that spot but still it would take time to get up to speed, so that might not be the answer either. Who knows maybe Verdon will be a natural and were set, but for now it looks like a hole.

With all the DB transfers this spring I still wasn't that worried about our secondary. But looking at the two deep without Craig McDonald has definitely got me worried. A RSFr in Verdon (who I'm not sure how much he has played to this point) and a true freshman backing him up is nerve wracking.
Just a reminder, Verdon was the third freshman of a set of Myles Purchase and Beau Freyler. And if I recall correctly, would also have played if he hadn’t been dinged up.
Seems like they are thin in some spots on the defense. Defensive backfield could be a weak spot. Coverage in general could.
Or, coverage in general could be really good for a change. We’ll find out.

I think that Purchase and Freyler, in general, are the new standard for DB recruits. And we have some more good ones coming in.

I’m not sure how long it will take Jeremiah Cooper to go from Spring track weight to Fall P5 football weight under Dave Andrews, but I’m reasonably sure he’ll be starting at FS in ‘23.

Jeremiah Cooper is probably 165lb. He'll be one of the top 3 talents at safety next year, but he may be too small.
For comparison, Beau Freyler was 60lbs heavier than him prespring (225lb). He's about 215 now.
Beau is incredible.

Becht might be in the mix to start next year(2023).
They say if Deckers and Purdy got to campus at the same time, Deckers would have been the QB. I have a hard time seeing Deckers losing the starting job, unless he’s just that bad this year.

The kid showed some flashes against not good team and he did okay against Iowa when they backed off the pressure. Maybe he will be great, but there is certainly nothing from last year that indicates that.
There's not a lot of competition. It's not a given but the raw talent is better than anyone we've had in my 3 decades.

As a Chiefs fan, Purdy to Deckers is similar to Smith to Mahomes. I’m not saying Deckers is the next Mahomes by any means, Purdy just had a poor man’s version skill set of Smith, while Deckers has the bigger arm and still some mobility like Mahomes. Definitely hope it ends up better, like Smith to Mahomes.

Who’s this Deckers guy you keep talking about? Did he play for Rhodes?

Wouldn't surprise me even if Becht is the true 2, that the depth chart shows otherwise. We have seen Campbell do things like that numerous times.

Glad to know like usual, you have nothing substantial to add. See you when we are down a score and that’s when you’re most active!

Sorry, I just prefer to see names spelled correctly. Pet peeve of mine…. that’s on me. It’s not a big deal.
