I've been to nearly every Iowa/ISU game over the last two decades, as long as you don't have the thinnest of skins you'll be fine. It's just not that big of a ******* deal, 99% of the people there won't say a single negative thing to you.
The only problem I have with the game in Iowa City is the crackdown on tailgating over the last decade plus - how am I supposed to connect with current students/recent grads when we can't reminisce about taking two story long beer bongs at Olive Court ?

First off, I'm glad that we have fans that will go there. The team deserves it. I'm just never going to be one of them. But if you think any of that is being thin skinned, then you've had a much different experience there than I have. Their fans routinely cross the line from my experience. Guarantee you don't see that at a B12 venue. Maybe it's just rivalry hatred. I wish they'd just end this stupid series.
Like I was alluding to, if you are this ******* soft or you adhere to college football culture war nonsense, don't go - you dead ass don't belong. If you're the type of person who catches a little bit of **** talk and dwells on it, stay home.
I've been to multiple B12 venues, it's truly no different outside of being a less fun party for the most part.
We've had a carload of sui fans direct obscenities toward us on hwy 30 just before we turned off on university Dr. At least they are outnumbered in Ames.

I don’t care about yelling anything, but if they are willing to get in my kids face (and it seemed he wanted to escalate it) when my kid was just sitting there in Ames when they win, I’m concerned about what they will do in IC when we win.
They can yell everything they want, just makes them look dumb, it’s the physical stuff with a younger kid I don’t care for.
I’ve never been to Kinnick for a game, but I did have a bad experience at an Iowa City bar once during the CyHawk game. My wife and I had a full pint glass of beer thrown at our table. We even had some Hawkeye family members at the table with us, so I thought it was extra weird that they threw beer at our group. I believe that my wife and I were just clapping after ISU made a first down. So after that I really have no interest in going to a football game and being surrounded by that trash fanbase. At least the person who threw beer on us was kicked out.
Yep no Iowa State fan has ever flipped the bird or swore ever at an opposing fan, player, ref, etc.

First part is true without a doubt, but at EIU the second part is not. Their fanbase has been going at it with not only ISU, but fans from Nebraska, Minnesota, and Wisconsin for years.
Over East, it's not just a few bad apples, its who they are.
You want an example, look at what happened at JTS a few years ago with their band. They were on the East side of the stadium that day, then after going on the field, and being told to get off, their band director marches them all way across the torn-up field to West side. Even though they have seen not only the EIU football team but the ISU band exit from the East side of the stadium.
When they get to the West side and see its jammed packed with fans because of construction going on at the stadium, do they wait for it to clear out, do they march back over to the East side? No, they get into full marching order, start playing the school song, and march right into the crowd, expecting ISU fans to give way.
It's not a few idiots, its most of their fan base and many in their university. Its who they are.
At this pace, 5 years from now the story will be that the marching band was being led by the trombone section in full riot gear hurling tear gas canisters at boy scouts helping old ladies down the ramps.
The problem is that the hok idiots are 'extreme' in behavior even though they are in the minority.
Did you watch the video, that ISU skycam shot? It clearly shows exactly what I said happened. The EIU band marches over to the west side of the field, they then get into marching formation, and start playing and march right into the packed crowd exiting the stadium.

So is it best to just ride the train/tram down? My oldest who went to a few games the last couple years said tailgating at hawkeye games left much to be desired. Said his friends/relatives were at the library parking lot and it’s basically a bunch of small groups here and there. Hard to mingle and said tailgating basically consisted of pounding drinks and just getting hammered. If I finish a case in a year I’ve went crazy. I like JTS where most people are put in one huge area and it’s easy to move around and hang out.
Guessing if I go, it would just be go to the game and go home (maybe take the oldest out for supper since he is between IC and CR now). So where do you park for the train/tram thing?
