Not exactly sure.
They did away with the train a few years ago, it left by the mall parking lot.
What is the best way to get there? I don’t want to get caught in a persons lawn with a guy behind me and wait a couple hours to get out. Been to hospital several times but otherwise I don’t know IC at all basically.

Like I was alluding to, if you are this ******* soft or you adhere to college football culture war nonsense, don't go - you dead ass don't belong. If you're the type of person who catches a little bit of **** talk and dwells on it, stay home.

I've been to multiple B12 venues, it's truly no different outside of being a less fun party for the most part.
Really? This ******* soft? Look, I don’t have issues with dumb asses yelling go hoks in my face. I have an issue with people throwing stuff and picking fights. Or more accurately I am not willing to go through the hassle of getting into that stadium AND subject myself to their boorish behavior on top of it.

Sorry, I didn’t think people here would be so offended from calling hok out on their BS. Nothing I said was exaggerated in the least. And I’m sure no one will be missing me in IC. I have enough trouble making games in Ames. But thanks for the psychoanalysis and staunch hok defense.

You have two choices, either park out at the golf course to the west and walk in, or park downtown and take one of the busses going to the stadium.
If you park at the golf course, be sure to not have anything on your vehicle that will identify you are an ISU fan.

They have like parking ramps, or am I having to feed a meter on my phone during the game? Neither option sounds real appealing.

So is it best to just ride the train/tram down? My oldest who went to a few games the last couple years said tailgating at hawkeye games left much to be desired. Said his friends/relatives were at the library parking lot and it’s basically a bunch of small groups here and there. Hard to mingle and said tailgating basically consisted of pounding drinks and just getting hammered. If I finish a case in a year I’ve went crazy. I like JTS where most people are put in one huge area and it’s easy to move around and hang out.

Guessing if I go, it would just be go to the game and go home (maybe take the oldest out for supper since he is between IC and CR now). So where do you park for the train/tram thing?
Tailgate in the Hancher Auditorium parking lot with a mixture of EIU and Cyclone fans, keep your beverage bottles in your trunk/hatchback, and take the free bus to and from the stadium. Parking is free.

my worst encounter there was for a Penn state game, buddy of mine is Penn state fan and wanted to go...the way he was treated was really almost dangerous

Every time I have gone to a cyclone game I was with sone Iowa fans so didn't have too many problems, but it's a rough crowd for sure

They are a very uncivilized bunch. That's what happens when you leave your trailer, stop at a Walmart, drive the gravel roads to get to Kinnick.

I've been to 2 Cy-Hawk games at Kinnick and tailgated for a handful of others. I only had an issue in 2002, when a grown man was taunting me (a 12 year old at the time) when Iowa went up 24-7. When Seneca completed the comeback, I said "how bout them Hawks?" and he lunged at me. Luckily my friend's dad, an Iowa fan, sat him down real quick.

Their walmart fans are terrible, and their casual fans are extremely arrogant, but I've never felt threatened. They're mostly just Iowans who wear different colors. They do have more of a mean spiritedness to their taunting, where ISU fans are more chip-on-the-shoulder types. Not a great combo. I do think the rivalry has become more intense and angry with ISU getting better at football, the growth of Des Moines and ISU fans in the area, and social media showcasing the absolute slums of each fanbase.

I don't have much desire to go to any more games there. Being around 100,000 peaceful Iowa fans still makes me want to puke.

At this pace, 5 years from now the story will be that the marching band was being led by the trombone section in full riot gear hurling tear gas canisters at boy scouts helping old ladies down the ramps.
I have noticed you have not commented about the video from the ISU skycam. Remember it was EIU that said the ISU fan base had assaulted members of their band and wanted to blame ISU for the entire incident.

But they are mostly just good-natured fans over there at EIU, just a FEW bad apples, but overall, a classy fan base.

They didn't do what they were directed to do. It was a bad look for them made worse by the fact that everyone was fried after being there for 12+ hours that day. It was a case of a bad leader trying to cover his ass which appears to be the MO from the president's office on down over there.

Honestly, I've been in Ames in UNI gear and Iowa City in Iowa State and UNI gear a bunch over the last 20 years and it's all pretty similar just as it is in any stadium I've ever been in. Either I've been incredibly lucky in the dozens of games I've been to or people are grossly exaggerating the things they've seen it have the thinnest skin imaginable.

The only time I've ever really seen violence was at a Florida-Georgia game in Jacksonville and that was because a drunk moron from Georgia tried to go after a teenage girl on the way in and her dad decked him.

Try wearing ISU gear the next time you go to Iowa City, and then for fun wear EIU gear to the Cyhawk game in Ames next year and then come back and tell everyone how you are treated.
Both fan bases ignore UNI, because UNI is not seen as a threat to the school, but both ISU and EIU see the other as a threat.

For the record, our fans can be embarrassing when it comes to understanding the game. In 2010 or 11, Iowa was kicking our ass in Jack Trice, and some ******* behind us was still yelling at the Iowa fans in the section. Take your ass beating and shut the hell up.

I literally did the last time the game was in Iowa City and had zero issues. Good natured ribbing that I gave right back all in good fun as we shared food and beer with the Hawk tailgate next to us both ways.

I'm done engaging this. Go ahead with the tales of unreported assault. Have at it.

I'd share my not so pleasant IC hok interactions but I would have to admit they remain as 'unreported assaults'.
All I know--I'll never go back with or without Cyclone gear. Not even with my nephew in his PurpleHok gear.

are we going to try to win the game this year. our coach doesn’t seem to care about pre conference games that much.

If I am a betting man - no.
Early line, we are 7 point dogs.
I do not understand our early season struggles, although last year we had struggles all season. Iowa was probably better than WV and TT and they beat us too.
I am still expecting 6-6, or maybe 7-5 season this year.

I’d guess you’re either lucky or in lots that are pretty tame. In 2019 I was sitting beside my camper in D4 and drunken hok rolls up to our neighbor and picks a fight for some reason. Neighbor actually puts him in a sleeper hold and leaves him laying on the ground. A few minutes later, the guy gets up and walks away. We just sat and witnessed the whole thing. So is that thin skinned, unlucky or an exaggeration? Because I watched the whole ******* thing with my own two eyes.
