In order, yes. But not the start-to-finish intended order. It's always bothered me on split starts too.

I guess my thought is the course architect designed it in a specific way-- 1 through 18. I think you could argue competitive advantage/disadvantage to not having to play them in that 1 through 18 order.
I guess I like it in that everyone starts and finishes at roughly the same time. No waiting in the clubhouse with a score seeing if it holds. If I understand the format correctly. Plus it reminds me of high school tournaments.

I really don’t think courses are that dependent on where you start. If they were switching around the order in situ that would be different.

So you dislike that the PGA sends out guys to hole 9 to start their round on Thursday and Friday?

I mentioned in my initial post I don't like that either, although with the size of field it's more necessity than whatever LIV is trying to do.

Take 16-18 at Quail Hollow for example. The architect clearly designed that to be a test at the end of your round. To me, having to play those 3 holes after a 4 hour round is much different than playing those within the first hour of your round.

Or take August for example. having Amen Corner then 13 and 15 both being getable Par 5s is set up purposefully, in my mind. Playing those 3 holes first would be much different than playing those down the stretch.

I guess I just think these courses were set up to be played in order, so play them in order.
They're apparently changing the layout at Quail Hollow for the President's Cup this year, 16/17/18 will be 13/14/15.

Everyone still plays the same holes in the same order.

Broadcasting advantages in having everyone on the same schedule. More well defined start and end times (unless weather intervenes), so it's more like other sporting events.

I suppose. I just think in a sport where there's plenty to critique I've never sat there and thought "everyone should be playing at the exact same time" before.

Production quality is pretty good from what little bit I've watched. I'd probably be somewhat inclined to pay attention if it wasn't a collective of every insufferable ***hat from the PGA tour.

This thing has a very limited field though...only 48 players. If they are trying to gain viewership, having a defined 4.5 hour window when every single player will play every shot makes more sense than spreading out 24 groups over 4 hours of starting times and 8 total hours of golf from first tee shot to last putt.

If I were them, I'd mic everyone up and encourage **** talking and personal side bets during the round.

Definitely. There will still be advantages gained by starting hole. Anyone who has golfed knows that you'd prefer to get a few holes in and get your rhythm before facing some of the more demanding holes.

Without commercials you really do get to see more people hit more golf shots, sometimes PGA events seem like you just see a lot of putts.

The noise when they highlight someone on the leaderboard is really annoying.

It's just more golf, I don't understand the "Golf but Louder" tagline, doesn't seem to be anything louder about it except that stupid ding sound.

Just wait, Phil is contractually obligated to take his shirt off at some point between holes 12-14.

I give LIV 3 years tops until the Saudis get tired of pouring obscene amounts of money into something that isn't giving them any return on their investment.
If you're paying some players $125+ million to play in a brand new golf tour, and giving out big guaranteed purses, I'd say it's safe to say making a profit isn't the main goal.
