I've seen stuff like that for major tournaments.

Head to head scoring
Group winners within a threesome for a hole/round
Individual scores on an upcoming hole

So the next step would be sponsorship from the betting houses and the announce team talking about it on air. The pace of the sport seems perfect for live props.

TV will be the ultimate decider. Yes, they can put out large purses to attract talent, but they need TV deals to eventually make money. While many viewers will forget the blood money, that's a risk for TV partners to sign this league for worry about sponsors dropping them just like they've dropped the golfers.

It looks like they don't want a TV partner. At least initially, appears they are using their own website & YouTube. As a cord cutter I love this approach, no hurdles to watch. Time will tell if they have trouble attracting commercial or location sponsorship partners.

IMO this offseason (Nov-Jan period) will be critical from a talent acquisition standpoint. Names like DJ, Phil or Oosty are great, but the reality is they are all past their prime. They need to sign some young guys who are currently winning tournaments. We'll see if money talks.

Watched a little bit this morning, I had a couple complaints:
  • Get rid of the scoreboard on left side of the screen. I don't need to know the top 18 golfers! Plus the navigation movement is annoying.
  • Stop trying to compare themselves to the PGA. And hyping the money aspect does nothing to attract me as a viewer. Almost laughable that the announcers felt it necessary to say that LIVGolf will now allow professional golfers to make their worth and compared golf to the NBA, Formula1, etc.
  • Stop spinning that certain logistics "are the right way". Most golf viewers understand the game. So touting the shotgun start as the "way golf should be played" is BS. The reality is there aren't enough good golfers to have the guys tee off over a 6 hour window.
I have no issue if LIVGolf provides competition to the PGA long term. Over the short-term maybe some ideas they have will be considered by the PGA.
  • Have the top golfers tee off during the afternoon. The RBC has around 150 golfers playing round 1/2. Have the top 75 ranked golfers tee off during the last 50% of the tee times. It's silly as a TV viewer to have some of the best golfers done by the time Golf Channel goes on air.
  • The World golf aspect is fun. I would love to see about 25% of PGA events be outside the US.
  • I am curious if the teams aspect will be compelling. I struggle to see it adding to viewer interest, but who knows. Maybe using different scoring approaches might be better. Aka more match play or approaches similar to the Zurich open.

I would imagine that ESPN would object to having all the better golfers go out last with the ESPN+ contract.

The PGA Tour probably doesn't condone betting, that letter they sent out made it very clear they are better than the people that are just looking for money.

This. Gambling is unbecoming of a gentleman. Whatever the **** that means

Would be curious what ESPN is paying the PGA for putting early content on ESPN+.

I think the GOLF Channel could be "convinced" to pay more if they knew all the top golfers will tee off in the afternoon.

I find it interesting that you can't find the leaderboard for the LIV tournament happening right now on ESPN, yet they have dedicated sections on the website for WWE, NBA G League, XFL, and Little League World Series.

Worldwide Leader in Sports!!

Somehow they can post a story on the LIVGolf defections, but can't create a tab for the leaderboard. But doesn't look like the have tabs for all the tours, just PGA, LPGA, DP Worldwide and Korn Ferry.

I guess they can't pay for enough interns to capture all tour results.

It was interesting to watch Van Pelt last night. He’s obviously a huge golf guy and I’d imagine more loyal to the guys who have stayed than those who left.

They ran a few LIV clips and you could tell by his tone of voice he wasn’t thrilled. They then immediately ran clips from the Canadian Open and he was much more enthused commenting on those.

ESPN also paid big to put PGA content on ESPN+ so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them ignore LIV.

NLU was discussing that if enough guys leave and the OWGR strength of field averages drop below a certain level, those TV deals are voided

Why would I want to watch 3 of the best players in the world compete for the title when I can watch the dynamic duo of Charl Schwartzel and Hennie Du Plessis go 1,2 at LIV?

What? What happened to Phil & DJ.

I would think the key for LIVGolf is if they can convince a handful top 50 ranked player join their tour once the FedEx Cup Series ends in late August (The FedEx Cup winner earns $18M). Especially some guys with wear left on their tires- ages 27 to 32.

I saw that Chase Koepka was playing the LIV Tour. Would be curious if Brooks makes the jump after the 2022 PGA Tour season ends.

If guys can see their way past the Saudi Royal family funding the LIV Tour, we could see 10-20% of the PGA Top 100 make the move. It might be an easier move for the top European Players. Also the LIV Tour only has 10 Tournaments on its schedule in 2023. Sure the individual tournament payouts are huge for the LIV Tour, but if guys can't play on the PGA Tour- that might minimize the purse differences.

The last place guy (#48) at this weekend's LIV Tournament made $120k. Compare that to the #48 player at last week's Memorial Tournament made $33,480.

Charl Schwartzel, #126 OWGR, rakes in $4.75M for the LIV/team win.

Second place Hennie Du Plessis, #133 pockets $2.875M. Another S Africa player, Brendan Grace in solo third, The South Africans are out to rule the golf world.

The course must have been worse than a totally penal US Open course. Check out this clown show of scores,....

The individual $$$$,........+24 gets $120K. A business model sure to succeed.
