I agree but it seems statistically improbable that Texas will be able to maintain its mediocrity indefinitely. I think there's a coach out there somewhere who can ignore the alumni, install their own system, and be successful.

I honestly think you're right but I don't see Sark as the guy. Now, Chris Peterson would have been a hell of a get and could have got them turned around in no time IMO.
I mean, in our lifetimes did we ever think we'd beat them 3 times in a row? Crazy.

In my view they will displace LSU. Elite now and then, damn good all the other times.

Different football in the SEC, if they keep their Riley identity, they’ll be more successful. Who knows where they land with the new guy.

Good call too. I'm not a BK hater because I think he did about as well at Notre Dame as he could have but he's looked like a clown so far at LSU.
I personally would have rather had Lane Kiffin than BK if I'm an LSU fan.

I meant that A&M initially struggled in the adjustment period, but they picked up where they left off as a program. They're essentially the same in the SEC as they were in the Big 12.

According to this they were better right off the bat and have been overall as good or better than what they did in the Big 12.

Either way, it will be a tough road for OU, as even when Alabama doesn't win the SEC or the West in the Saban Era, they are still a tough nut. Plus, whichever team wins the West instead of them since 2010 is a tough nut that year too: Auburn (2010, 2013 and 2017) and LSU (2011 and 2019). Then, if they get past that, they have to face Georgia who is on the way of replacing Alabama as the dominant team in the league as long as Kirby is there.

Oklahoma will have a year here and there like Auburn or LSU and be super nasty in that given year, but they will be just another good (8-4, 9-3, 10-2) team in most years.

Texas is just doomed to mediocrity.

I think Texas will be okay, should be in the upper half to third. Their affiliation with the SEC may actually help them, but acquisition of talent has never been an issue, it's the execution.

Before Lincoln Riley left for USC, I thought Oklahoma would probably be just fine. But with that loss, I honestly think they turn into the Nebraska of the SEC. Once powerful, but now mediocre at best.

When I look at it, what would attract athletes to Oklahoma? Winning history? Nice facilities? Dime a dozen in the SEC. It will be interesting to see how they do now without Riley. If they fall back this year, i'd look for them to slip even farther once they hit the SEC. There are some cupcakes in the SEC for sure, but the top is usually crowded. The more I look at it I think they played themselves and I could see them in the middle to bottom of the league in 5 to 10 years.

What are your thoughts and predictions? Do they remain a powerhouse?

Mediocre reason being, they have yet to bean an SEC team in the playoff.

I'm just kind of looking at aTm historically now and man, the perception (by some) of them being an upper tier team isn't really warranted.
Honestly, aTm right now is about what Florida was under Mullen and they canned him.

They won’t lose to KU anymore so that instantly makes you at least look better. That’s the only reason I’ve got though.

UT has been a mess since they canned Mack Brown and going to the SEC is a disaster. OU has always recruited well in the fertile Texas HS ground and I expect they will benefit from moving to the SEC exploiting UT’s mediocrity. The only thing that is the unknown is if Venables is another Harbaugh who was supposed to return Michigan to elite status and can’t get over the hump. Another example is Penn State who has been successful but not elite once they entered the B10 arena.

Resigned may be accurate technically, same way as Johnny Orr resigned at ISU from what I've heard/remember. Dang that is getting to be a long time ago.

I don't think Texas changes much in the SEC. They'll still find a way to win 7-8 games per year, but the fan base will be satisfied because wins are coming against SEC teams and they don't have to risk losing to Kansas and Iowa State anymore, not to mention all the "lesser" Texas schools.

Yeah I think he was on the way out anyway. I remember after ISU beat them in Austin in 2010 he went off about his frustrations with how he'd warned the team and they didn't take him on it. I think player egos started being an issue and things were unraveling internally.
