Because I'm pretty sure right now the Pac-12 is just trying to make the money work for the conference. It's not an impossibility they could make that happen, but probably not sustainable. Arizona seems to have one foot out the door.

Our new commissioner takes over in August, and I think that's when the Pac-12 exclusive negotiating window or whatever expires and it got reported they got low-balled by ESPN.

If at some point, the writing is on the wall, I think a few of the Mountain schools will leave then and get the first mover advantage, but that's probably at least not going to happen until next month if not later.

Are we considered together with the FCS? We can and do still schedule them, But we are not together in any way, and play nothing more than what can be considered an exhibition game with them.

I mean we are barely considered together with the G5, but because we still play bowls together we are still loosely attached.
Yes, we are both part of NCAA. Breaking away means breaking away from NCAA. If they are going to play other teams outside of their super league, that can be done under the current structure and there is no need to break away. Either it’s a clean split or just an evolution of what we have today.

So not for sure when this started, but we probably won't hear anything until after it has expired (guessing like August 4/5).

Maybe there's a possibility that an unknown third party will jump in and save the Pac-12 after those dates.

If there are no good offers (and it seems like what has been reported, the current offers are too low for Pac-12 to continue to exist), I think Mountain schools are gone.

I would think if the window closes Aug 4, then any other bidders will be in touch with their bids on Aug 5. Surely they have done all their homework and have their bids ready.

Not exactly sure.
This has been a lengthy debate between Gonzo, Speedy and others, and a good one. But I’m with Gonzo. The blue bloods will never want a schedule where they only play good teams. They are willing to share revenue with teams like Purdue, Maryland, Iowa and Arkansas. Like my buddy who’s a big EPL soccer fan once said, they want to be able to beat the lesser teams but they want them to care. That makes Iowa and Purdue perfect as long term bottom half teams. The Hawks will trade 8-4 every year against a crap schedule for 4-8 or 6-6 against a schedule with 2, 3 or 4 more power teams on it. OU and Texas would not have left for the SEC if the bottom half of the conference wasn’t there. USC wouldn’t have joined the B1G if they weren’t going to get a steady diet of Minnesota, Illinois, Purdue and Nebraska.
So you are telling me that OuT left to play miss state and wake? Don’t think so, they left for money. How do you get that, the big teams.

There are teams out there that are doing poorly that have/had the name. Nebraska, Minnesota, Tennessee, South Carolina, Arkansas are all examples of teams that still have that name but are basically your low rung teams for close to 20 years or better now. They still have pull. Heck BYU hasn’t done a whole lot lately and they are still a name. Those teams will be there that have nattys in their past.

Then you have teams like Auburn that sling shot to the pinnacle every great once in a while and believe they can keep it up. That includes USC, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ole Miss.

It will depend on the size they are looking at. 24 could be two divisions with a 4 team playoff of run and 8 where they basically get half the slots and they make more money and have the best shot at a natty.

I doubt that’s the case. It’s not an auction. These deals are incredibly complex and we’re talking about rights that are years away. I doubt there is even any discussions until the BiG deal is finalized.

They keep the bad teams around to get wins. They aren’t going to vote schools out of a conference just because you want them to. They like to win games.

Also I'm not sure if conferences could ever directly trim the fat as it's never been done before.

In the hypothetical that they'd try to remove non-earners from their bottom-line, I don't know if schools would just align directly and start a new conference, or if they would try to introduce subtle, arcane requirements that force out the small schools on their own. Like a minimum salary for players or something that the bottom-feeders can't finance, essentially forcing them out while pretending that the requirements are some kind of social good.

Probably what's most likely is that you'd have a TV rights broadcaster or something announce they're going to start a super league with insane payouts, and then all the blue-bloods would just leave when their contract expired and they got an invite.
It absolutely has been done. Big East for one.

Here we go… curious if their comish has better responses than the ACC’s. Looking for hints on there potential media deal.

I feel for the guy. There's just nothing he can say at this point that will satisfy people, unless he can come up with some media deal nobody believes is possible.

Hopefully we can limit the ISR board level arguments to a minimum on this thread....
Seriously. Can we get a 72-hour moratorium on Iowa-related chat in this thread? It feels like this is becoming ISR 2: Electric Boogaloo. The Iowa references in the last 50 pages or so outnumber the Iowa State references at least 10:1.

That is only in respect that everything in college sports is under the NCAA umbrella. If you want to go that route D3 is also together with P5...because they are part of NCAA.

It doesnt have to be a full break away from the NCAA, but it could be. The NCAA might not even exist in the future, at least not in the same way we currently know it.

Is that why this thread jumped like 25 pages in a day despite no news actually taking place?
