I stand corrected. In the article it says it was heading to the house. Must not have passed. I do see a number of teslas without plates on the road but they may be more of a reflection of the driver.

I see a higher ratio of Corvette drivers without front plates than those with Teslas, but it seems like law enforcement leaves those Corvette drivers alone about it. They definitely don't ignore the Teslas, though. Trooper Rob Battles here in central Iowa makes a point of it.

I’m glad I angry post here where smart people can call me out on my fake news.

I watched a video this morning where some guy in a Tesla pulled out a gun on some skateboard punks for grinding a railing. Yadda yadda yadda here we are.

Sorry to derail thread OP. I need some coffee.

This is absolutely not true. All vehicles on the roadways registered in the state of Iowa are required to have front plates displayed. Teslas are provided with front plate holders that can be attached to the front fascia.

The front plate requirement should be removed, though. Its worthless and only serves to uglify cars. Every time a legislator tries to get rid of the requirement, the law enforcement lobbyists shut it down.

30% of cars in Cedar Rapids don't have plates of any kind. Pretty sure they decided not to enforce it unless you are also committing a moving violation. Makes me wonder what the fine is vs paying for registration.

OK, 30% is an exaggeration. But you NEVER saw cars without plates unless they had the temp tag paper in the window. Now I see them literally every time I am driving in town.

Wonder how long the batteries will last if you drive this thing like a 70s muscle car

Wouldn't last long, but electric is FASTER off the line than ICE. Acceleration is only limited by the tires, really.

This will be one of those "tribal" things with ICE guys and EV guys, and it will be no different than Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge etc. Something to mildly argue about...

Supposedly ever since the Rona hit the county treasury offices have been really slow to get new vehicle registrations pushed through. I haven't bought a new/used vehicle since then but apparently this has been the issue with seeing all the temp tags around. We see it here in central Iowa also.

Those temp tags are only valid for 30 days, I think. When I purchased my vehicle during the pandemic, it took until day 29 before I could get an appointment to get my registration completed.

Wouldn't be surprised if many of those cars had registrations but they took the plates off to get around the cameras.

Temp tags are 45 days, but the Polk county treasurer has been allowing an extension up to 90 days. I got mine for a vehicle purchased in January right around day 43. My wife actually got a newer vehicle about a week later than me but ended up getting her plates first. A lot of it comes down to when the local dealerships have their appointments to submit registration applications. I found out that Ramsey didn't even submit the paperwork until almost a month after I purchased the vehicle. My wife's was purchased up in Cedar Falls and I assumed they just mailed it right away.

This was the side plot of some stupid Kevin James and Vince Vaughn movie from a while back.
That's why I thought this was already a thing!

Probably about as long as a tank of fuel last like a 70's muscle car
True. But I can fill up a late 60s muscle car in 3 minutes. I can wait 40 minutes to get a 70% charge on a Tesla if I find a Supercharger. And if there's no line.

Lets say my experience renting a Tesla at SeaTac had a lot of drawbacks. There are a lot of charge stations in Seattle but most are destination chargers, where I was getting 10% per hour. The superchargers were spread out and there weren't a lot.

In the words of Jeremy Clarkson "The future is very inconvenient."

We just need to get rid of front plates anyhow. No police officer pulls you over and then walks around and looks at your front plate.

Yes we should and yes they do.

My plastic plate holder on the front of my Ford F350 broke so I grabbed the plate before it fell off and put it on my dash. A day later a sheriff pulls me over for strictly that.

Then, starts looking around my truck for other violations. He says the tint in my windows is too dark. I had none. Then he says I need a class B CDL to drive my dually. I said no I don't. He then had me come back and sit in his car while he looked up my name and my business name for any violations. I had none.

He then proceeds to write me up for not having a front plate......then a bunch of warnings for my window tint not having my F350 inspected or a CDL.

This is not BS and was just a couple of years ago on the Interstate bypass south of Des Moines.

Batteries are nowhere near as energy dense as oil.

I think the poster was talking more in terms of performance. Electric cars that are built with speed and power in mind could absolutely smoke ice vehicles. Electric delivers immediate maximum horse power and torque. Watch while this Rimac sets a quarter mile record for a production car while absolutely destroying a Ferrari.

These are cars WITHOUT temp tags. Just "ridin' dirty" I suppose.

You are correct.

Watched video's of how fast a Tesla is in the 1/4........WOW! But used a majority of the juice.

Was just out in the mountains on vacation and thinking as our van struggles up the grade on I-70.......how the H E double hockey sticks are EV's going to survive on this. They better have a bunch of supercharging stations in the mountains just on the uphill because it will take a majority of the batteries range just to try. And that's just I-70.

And when I say a bunch.......I mean a lot. Because traffic was heavy. Even out in the Vail and Glenwood Springs area.

Yeah they don't have a place to mount the front plates. I got a 3d printed mounting kit that does not require me to drill through the plastic.
