Lacy underalls wasn’t that hot. She’s like Paris Hilton, if she wanted to get busy with me I would, but I wouldn’t make her my first choice. She was hot because she was a Ho.
But wasn't that the whole point. Danny Noonan had a cute girlfriend who was apparently fun in bed but his 17 year old libido took over when Lacy came on to him.

As I recall - and it has been probably 20 years since I read it - you think Hammond is going to survive because the helicopter is there to take them away and then the compys get him right at the end.

And I think Hammond is much more sinister in how he operates in the book whereas in the movie he's more of victim of dreaming big.

Not exactly sure.

His gf wasn’t hot either. In fact, you didn’t watch the movie for the hotties.

I'm willing to go along with Spielberg and agree that Back to the Future with Eric Stoltz would have been considerably worse than the classic it is with MJF.

I can't imagine it without Crispin Glover either.

That movie still holds up and imo Doc is even funnier in moments when he's just using facial expressions.

Have you ever watched the show (I think it's called Beyond the Story or Behind the Scenes) they do about certain movies? They did one on the Back to the Future trilogy and they had a good segment on this alone about how they had shot a lot of footage already and there just wasn't chemistry there with Eric. MJF became available and they had to basically start all over again but the on screen chemistry was noticeably improved immediately and the rest is history from there. Had they released the 1st movie with Eric as Marty I'm not so sure they would have ever made a 2nd or 3rd. There are a lot of good tidbits about that movie in that documentary about how that movie almost never happened too.
Director Robert Zemeckis once said Stoltz was playing the role too seriously, like it was a drama instead of a comedic action/adventure.

Plot for seemingly all:

--person either has super powers they're not aware of or they get them somehow, and do something to take care of general problems.

--main villain has much more sinister plan, executes it.

--super hero fights the villain, is defeated and the public loses hope while someone is in grave danger.

--super hero resurrects themself or is joined with another hero, and through a lengthy 3rd act, beat the villain.

--sequel is follow up of similar plot except two or more heroes team up.

There's some like Iron Man et al that I enjoy but many feel pointless.
Even a cookie-cutter structure can be entertaining, but I find with most superhero/Marvel stuff, I simply don't care enough about the hero or the situation to be engaged, or can't find enough hatred toward the villain, either, to root against. Action usually is engaging, but that alone doesn't carry. Also, run time often is more than necessary, but I think that about other movie genres, too.

I'm with @dahliaclone, maybe I'm simply too far beyond age demographic to find it worthwhile.

Outside of just not being interested in them, they have sucked the air out of the room related to producing really good plot driven movies. The sunken cost for licensing is paid for, so lazy movie producers churn out one after another and people looking for simplistic action continue to flock to them. The last few good movies I've watched were on streaming services only. I'm actually fine with that, but I suspect they are not well funded at least in comparison to through traditional methods.

Not really a major "hill" but, it is 100% acceptable for movies to be just mindless entertainment. Not everything needs to be an oscar winner.

My favorite example is Pacific Rim. The entire premise of that movie was to have giant robots punching giant monsters and that's what you got. Now, there was a fairly decent backstory and the first 10 minutes of the movie did a great job with the exposition and explaining things. Wish that a) they had done prequels, and b) that the "sequel" never even existed.

The Star Wars prequels would have been MUCH better as silent films with no dialogue.
I recently binge-watched the "Star Wars" prequels and "new era" series, and realized how little I paid attention to backstory when I saw the "originals" originally. I was in it for The Cool Stuff and it was what everyone was watching so I had to see it and like it.

Frankly, I could take or leave the whole thing at this point.

Speaking of this, I always thought it was weird as hell that Danny's girlfriend was Irish but no one ever really points it out.
