David Montgomery has ripped off a couple 15+ yarders in his first preseason action. One was called back for a hold. No sign of Chase Allen yet tonight.

Justin Fields has two touchdown throws already in the first quarter against the Browns. Are the Bears....going to be good?
Doubt it. Best case for the Bears is to suck, but have the young guys show promise. Get a huge haul for their high pick from a team that needs a QB, and sign a bunch of good FA's next year as they'll have lots of cap space in 2023.

The Athletic writers have been releasing their projections for 53 man rosters.

Lazard
Montgomery
Hall
Enyi
Kolar - was listed but looks like they will send him to IR possibly.

Purdy has a chance but probably practice squad.

They mentioned Allen as a possibility for Bears if they kept 4 TEs and he showed enough on ST but probably practice squad.

Yep, it's basically split into 4 groups:
  • Established contributors: Lazard, Montgomery, Nwangwu
  • Higher drafted rookies: Hall, Kolar (IR), Uwazurike
  • 53-man bubble: Purdy, Hummel, Allen
  • Practice squad candidate: Harvey*, Jacobson, Akers, Soehner (PUP), Leo** (International Exemption), Rose, Schweiger
*Teams are allowed to carry 10 players with less than two seasons accrued, and an additional 6 with unlimited seasons accrued. Willie Harvey is in his 3rd season so would count against the 6.
**Matt Leo's International Exemption means that he does not count against the Eagles 16 practice squad slots.

Rose cut by Chiefs and that is the wrong move. Hope he lands somewhere.

Granted nobody looked good the other night when he was out there but he didn't seem to do very well.

Isn’t Schweiger on the bubble?

Ah, good call on Kene!

Yeah you had the better breakdown. There was no mention of anyone else anywhere so I didn’t bother.

Rose, Hummel, Akers could be too PS candidates outside of Purdy/Allen

According to this website Nate Sudfeld has been waived by the 49er's, which would elevate Brock to #2 QB
I saw this earlier in the afternoon, then it disappeared.

Interesting...I don't think they will keep Jimmy G due to his large salary but maybe after watching Lance this preseason they have changed their mind on that.

Jimmy G passed his physical weeks ago. It's telling they haven't been able to trade him yet. Their decision is to cut or keep. No one is going to trade anything for a guy that is potentially on the open market in four days. So it boils down to what SF really thinks about Trey Lance. They can't bluff their way into a trade this late in camp.

Feels like it would be a strange move considering he’s guaranteed $2 million.
I think if you view it from a they have 2.9 million dollars slotted to QB2 if they cut sudfeld and keep brock it becomes more palatable to think about. I'd imagine even with the sunk cost of sudfeld that'd be lower than most teams qb2 outlay.
