Is the higher payout of the SEC and BIG worth a more competitive path to make the playoffs for Oregon, Washington, Stanford and Utah?
Oklahoma has to be questioning going to the SEC nowIs the higher payout of the SEC and BIG worth a more competitive path to make the playoffs for Oregon, Washington, Stanford and Utah?
There's a big difference between playing in the Peach Bowl against the #2 team from the SEC or Big 12 and having a chance at a national championship.
Exactly. People are forgetting how little bowls actually matter anymore. All the coaches and players leave before them now. Kenny Pickett opted out of a NY6 bowl last year. Kelly and Reilly left their teams before NY6 and major bowls. Tons and tons of bowl eligible players chose to transfer out before it was played. NY6 bowls aren't the same as the playoff. Yeah that’s going to be a colossal mistake they had to know an expanded playoff was coming, this is one of the stupider admin moves I’ve seenOklahoma has to be questioning going to the SEC now
They tied themselves to the grim reaper of conferences, their major blunder.Yeah that’s going to be a colossal mistake they had to know an expanded playoff was coming, this is one of the stupider admin moves I’ve seen
If you’re in a conference without access, you don’t think that affects which coaches want to be in that conference?I love Iowa State but I have a hard time believing that a major selling point of coming here is the opportunity to play in the Playoffs. In all seriousness. If Campbell is pitching playoffs to recruits and they're nodding then he is performing some crazy magic.
6 conferences and 6 at larges.Awesome! Can't wait to see a 12 team playoff with 4 SEC teams, 4 B1G teams, Clemson, Notre Dame and two at larges!

Might want to read the proposalIf they're going to 12 teams, they need to get rid of the committee and give the top seeds to conference champs. Then use a computer model for at large teams. No human input.

They did it for the money, not playoff position. Texas is arrogant enough to think they will still get in!Yeah that’s going to be a colossal mistake they had to know an expanded playoff was coming, this is one of the stupider admin moves I’ve seen
The logic of this is flawed because you could make this argument about any configuration. If a squad like the mountain west gets the 6th spot that’s still 6 at large bids. If you can’t get in there then you don’t belong in the playoff.
Pre-BCS: 1-2, maybe 3 Bowl games "mattered" in the sense of determining the national champion. The number Bowl games that mattered was inversely proportional to the number of teams still in contention who were playing each other. Every other bowl game was irrelevant.Exactly. I may have been on another page there. I was considering in the past 5 years I doubt that we were recruiting under the guise of the potential for national championships. We just haven't been close. You're saying the exit of OU and UT probably would have left us with no chance whatsoever of that, but the expansion of the playoff keeps that in play. So prior state, we weren't getting in, future state with no expansion we DEFINITELY weren't getting in, but future state with expansion it's viable. If you’re in a conference without access, you don’t think that affects which coaches want to be in that conference?
