Not exactly sure.
Go ahead and compare attendance numbers and they aren’t that far off. Again people show up when the teams are good and you lose a lot of fans when they aren’t. Even the blue bloods aren’t immune. But we can agree to disagree.
Hey ISU was filling the stadium when we had one winning season in like ten years.

Yep you guys have great fans and a great in game experience. I get media wants to say that their isn’t anything to do in Iowa so that’s why but we all know that’s trash. Says a lot about your fan base that you continued to show up for all the bad years. As I said it isn’t that way for most schools.

I don’t get even having the other stuff to do argument. The beaches, mountains and any other attractions aren’t going away. If a team is 5-4 and fans stay home and crochet or go climb a mountain, it makes zero difference.

And they are different. If they win fans show up, which makes them like every other power conference Team in the country.

Hey now, the Hawkeye fans do their crocheting at the basketball games.

So you are saying nowhere else has as much to do as California?

Some would say other places have just as much to do, just maybe different things.
  • Probably not a lot of corn and beans being combined in L.A. but there is in Iowa.
  • Probably not a lot of Hunting being done in L.A. but there is in Iowa, and other states.
  • Probably not a lot of hogs, cows and other farm chores to be done in L.A. but there is in Iowa and other areas.
  • There are tons of other recreation activities that are just the same around the country that they are in Cali...biking, hiking, motorcycling, axe throwing, bowling, golfing, tournaments, Movies, theaters, parties, gatherings, bars, Lakes, fishing, swimming, Pools, boating, climbing walls, Parks, etc etc etc.
Some places even have beaches besides California.

Basically LA has a beach and that is the excuse, but everywhere has things to do, some have beaches, some have other things. Some have lakes, some have ocean too. Florida, Texas, Alabama, Carolinas, ring a bell?

Football is just more important to some places than the west coast. The west coast uses excuses but really it just means that its just not that important. They are fair weather fans, and only care went they jump on the bandwagon. Otherwise they will find something else to do.

Other areas, Football is more important, and people believe they can go to the beach etc. anytime, except for the handful of weeks in the fall.
How much does the harvest even affect attendance? Like 4-5% people farm in Iowa.

i still remember the hangover setting in at both the Utah and Oklahoma games where we gave up 60 points. great times
First one I had was Okie state around 90 or 91. Played to a 2 FGs each tie. It was warm too. We got our first first down in the third quarter and everyone went crazy.

Except Florida has generally great weather too during football season and great beaches and lots and lots of other entertainment attractions on par with Cali. If not on par, very close. Yet they seem to support Florida, FSU and Miami and to some extend UCF and USF.

I've been to Orlando and Jax. Didn't see a reason to return.

To each their own. Chicago always has sports at the top of any "things to do" list. I wouldn't say that actually good.

SoCal will support a winner. The rest of the time they'll play in paradise and not think of the folks back east. That's just the way it is.

I've been to LA, SF and SD. The only one I'd go back to by choice is SD. The water in that Ocean is COLD! That's why I spend 6 months in Florida where a person can actually enjoy the ocean by going in. Without a wetsuit.

And I'll tell ya....a wetsuit does NOT hide love handles.

Actually it's totally the opposite.

No, Cali is not really my scene, but I have been to the Texas Gulf, the Alabama Gulf, the Florida Gulf, the Florida Atlantic Coast, Georgia Coast, South Carolina Coast.
Several Great lake coasts too.

You know what I noticed in all those locations......A Beach.

I'm still waiting for the list of things you can only do in LA. That you cant do in say Miami. Or Houston, Or Savannah, or even Tallahassee.

The list of things besides the beach you can't do, in Atlanta, Dallas, hell even KC or DM.

I also want to you understand when I say there are things to do in other states that they don't really do in Cali Like hunting.
Cali gets about 975,000 hunting licenses a year for about 40 Million people, just barely over 2%.
Iowa gets about 640,000 hunting licenses a year for about 3.2 Million People. That is a much MUCH larger percentage of the population that goes hunting. 20% of Iowa's population hunts to be exact. Also of note most of the hunting seasons start up in the Fall. Right when football season starts.

But I doubt that many spend time on the beach in October in Iowa, But I'm sure Many are hunting. Just like I wonder how many actually are at the beach in LA in October, my guess not too many either.

The D.M Metro is 550,000 people to fill a stadium of 61K.

The LA Metro is 12.5 Million to fill a couple stadiums at 70-80K. I doubt all 12.5M are sitting at the beach every Saturday, and you cant use NFL because they dont play on Saturdays. Sure there is a lot to do but there is 25 times as many people to do all those things.

Relative to the number of people is there really that much more to do? Really?
Yeah, there isn’t much to do here in SoCal. You probably shouldn’t visit. And you definitely shouldn’t consider moving here.

What do you think of the second year with Mel Tucker? Can he keep it going. Now I will be watching Illinois ***** slap Indiana.
The schedule is so much harder this year and we have a brutal October of OSU, Wisconsin, and Michigan in a row. I am hoping for 9-10 wins but it depends on how the secondary improves. The team is pure transfers at a lot of positions but seem to be playing well against MAC competition at least.

Im not saying that is all there is, that is just one aspect in Iowa, that several other areas dont have.

Yes other areas have jobs etc. But harvest is we do this now, and not after the game. We have a window to get it done and that is that.

Again I am not saying its the entire picture, it is just 1 aspect of things. Just like the BEACH is not 100% of what people In LA are doing on a given Saturday in October.

Dont worry, I would NEVER move to Cali. Not a chance in hell. I really have no desire to visit the LA area at all. SD maybe, but LA not at all.

I know several people that have left Cali and they don't regret it. Most the LA area in particular.

And that is fine but it is also why you have absolutely no understanding of what you are talking about when it comes to the beach life style. No offense, but you are comically off the mark.

And I’m one of the many that moved from LA to SD when I hit a certain age.
