I was very satisfied with today’s win and Iowa’s struggles, but still don’t feel confident about next week.
I think we kick iowas ass next week. Why? Because they have no o line, no skill players, and their qb can't throw a forward pass.

They aren't very good folks, people act like they are the 85 bears when in reality anybody with a heartbeat and a qb scores on them just fine.

The way they win has zero room for error, and is justly a function of luck and a rotten schedule.

We have a better team, and have had better teams for a couple years now, eventually the better team wins. We need to have a better game plan offensively and this shouldn't be close.

Didn't see any of the game and only heard to very end. Can someone comment on the pass defense? It seems like they gave up a lot of yard today. I am assuming we had a lot of subs in there at points of the game.

Not a lot of worries with the secondary. Need more pressure from D line, but a lot of perceived issues is how ISU defends

I like our chances with Dekkers so much more than I did in the past, with Purdy, even though I love Brock.

We just can’t turn the ball over and we have to win the field position grudge match.

Offense didn’t worry me. Dekkers is the big arm we’ve needed and Hutchinson is an absolute stud!

Defense wasn’t my favorite and this rushing three only stuff is not my favorite. We didn’t put enough pressure on them and against a better o-line like Iowa it could be troublesome for us. Won’t put too much stock into this one, but there’s a lot of defensive things that need to be ironed out if we want to beat Iowa next week.

During the CF halftime show, Bret Meyer was saying the defensive line just needed better gap integrity. Too many wide open holes in the middle of the field with linebackers not filling them. Something I think that can be cleaned up pretty quickly with film study.

He kicked at least 3 into the end zone (all going south with a decent wind at his back). He wasn’t even close to the end zone when he was kicking into the wind.

I don’t think he has the leg Mevis had last year, but it wasn’t terrible. We have a kickoff guy who can get it to the end zone…sometimes.
I believe Gilbert kicked all of his thru the end zone. Shackford kicked in the 2H and wasn’t hitting them as far

We don’t even care about facts when #&@$ting on Purdy these days. JFC, I just dont get the hate.
We love Purdy, but in the context of Iowa, he sh#t himself. He turned it over in the red zone in 2019 and had 3 turnovers against them last year. For whatever reason, he just couldn't keep it together against Iowa.

Our pass D was sh*t. When Qb was not passing for completions, he was running past would be sacks for 20 yd gains. For what ever reasons, passes in 2nd half not thrown as accurate or were being dropped. Failed early TD on 4th down was a momentum breaker for SEMO. We DID step up on D in 2nd half when it became critical.
We gave their WRs a nice 5-6 yard cushion and they took it. Just slowly moved the ball with these short passes. If we let Iowa move the ball like that their punter will pin us deep each time.

Will is getting double teamed constantly, get used to it, there will be lots of games this year we hear very little from him, won't be his fault, it's just reality, he's chewing up double trans a lot.
I agree. SEMO was constantly giving the tackle help on Will. I see us rushing a LB or safety in many games to free up Will. We may only rush three against Iowa because of their terrible QB play, but I would like us to pressure him a lot early to really rattle him.

We saw that cushion too…so why do we do that? Surely we had the athletes against SEMO that could press their WR’s at the line and still not get beat deep? It seems like we were give up 5 or 6 yards on first down a lot of the time- I hope we don’t plan on doing that next week too.

Bend but don’t break defense.

Hard to complain about much today (but I'm sure the game thread proves that false lol).

O line was good, if not great. Kept the pocket clean just as they should have, run blocking could be better.

Dekkers showed good poise, decision making, an ability to throw anywhere on the field, and some touch too.

Defense was vanilla as always in the first half and gave up a lot of yards, but locked down (as always) in the second half. I'd like to see at least a little random pressure against Iowa early to keep Petras from developing any confidence from the easy 6 yard pitch and catches.
Can someone who was at the game....How is Dekkers' execution compare with Purdy? Didn't see Dekkers go through progressions ..Don't know if that is a good thing or bad?

He definitely went through progressions. Hit the safety valve a few times on the check down. He, IMO, makes decisions on time which was a knock on Purdy last year.

01. Picture perfect weather.
02. My friend I go with changed parking lots (from the mud fields to a paved lot) , which was an improvement.
03. Tailgated with some old friends I hadn't seen since the Liberty Bowl, and saw another old friend after the game (who was working through the early part of the game). I hadn't seen him since before I moved away in 1995! That was really nice and enhanced my experience.

As for the game itself...
01. I was very impressed with Dekkers! He has some Tua or Kenny Stabler (#12) in him.
02. Brock worked hard. You just don't replace Breece Hall like that, but it was nice to see him hit the Century mark by a constant grind. ISU will need that next week with a lot of Dekkers!
03. Xavier is so good, and ISU is fortunate he came back for 2022.
04. The Defense was fine. The big plays they gave up had more to do with a skillful SEMO QB than being imcompetent.

Other stuff...

I like the way the Band played to the Student Section after the Marching performance at half-time. That was nice.

Did I mention the Chamber of Commerce weather yesterday?

Just a GREAT day to be at a CFB Game and to be a Cyclone! I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else yesterday.

Let's Go State!

Agree on turnovers.
Field position - Iowa has a HUGE weapon in their punter. He beat us last year. Expect us to have a lot of long fields. Too me, it all points to a low scoring game determined by turnovers - once again. Their defense is very good.
