I mean this sincerely I am extremely happy about this. Make up your own stories. I'm getting pretty tired of adaptation actually. I know I'm in the minority on this, especially with Marvel, but when they bring back the X-Men I think they should just make a bunch of new mutants. The X-Mansion is always getting blown up anyway, just blow up Cyclops and Professor X and give me a whole bunch of new ones. I'm actually kind of disappointed Galadriel and Elrond are in this.
They have to be central to any story about the War of the Rings, as those two had elven rings.

I agree, I wish they wouldn't have told something about the rings specifically. Do something else.

But what is there? There are probably some prohibitions on creating completely original stories within the LotR-verse. But if they did create a wholly original story, what value is there of setting in this world outside of name recognition. And if you never tie it back to any of the known characters or places, they would get accused of doing a money grab based on the name.

Middle Earth is probably the biggest character in LotR. I think for fans of the series, you show us some new places, show us Andor at it's peak, stuff like that we're happy campers. Osgiliath at the height, some story with the Palantir when they are held by the forces of good, something like that.

The founding of Gondor and Arnor and their rise to power are probably going to depicted at some point in this series. They were key players in the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, so it's only a matter of time.

Wow tough crowd in here. I really enjoyed the first two episodes and am looking forward to the rest.
That’s where I’m at. They were good, but not great but did set the stage well for what’s ahead. Great production values and it looks amazing, acting seems solid as well. Its been so long ago that I read these books that I can’t even remember most of the history details, so I’ll just roll with whatever stories they tell.

Yeah I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Not the best show I've seen ever right now but Episode 2 left us with some pretty major cliffhangers which I'm very interested to see how they get resolved.

It's the first two episodes of 8 so l guess I wasn't expecting to feel blown away yet. I think it's done a nice job of setting the stage while still be interesting and not too slow.

And it sounds like they've confirmed 5 full seasons already, so no need to blow through the set up

Agree. Compare this to the disappointment (for me anyway) that was The Wheel of Time. So far LOTR is ten times better. Better visually, way better dialogue, waaaaaay better acting.
Agreed. Wheel of Time wasn't bad, by any means. But side by side, the Rings of Power series is not really a comparison.

My feelings on Wheel are so weird. The show wasn't bad. But there was just nothing that really popped about it. They've done a great job here.

I'm not a Wheel of Time fan and have never read the books, but found the show to be entertaining enough. Was it the best thing ever? No, but I didn't find it to be bad either. I'm looking forward to the next season.
