Rooftop seating looking over the massive tailgating scene on game day would be awesome.
Looks like you're right. A year ago or so, there were rumors they were looking at Ames instead of DSM for a Central Iowa location. I hadn't seen the news about DSM but just found the articles from back in May.Oh?? That would be cool. Aren’t they opening a destination brewery in Des Moines though?
After having been in kinnick this weekend, I'm not as mad at Verizon in Trice. I can actually text in Trice. My son can occasionally get game scores there also.
They have pretty large soccer tournaments there all the time.I think the university missed an opportunity when the intramural fields were redone. With the amount of youth baseball, softball and soccer tournaments they could have designed them with that in mind for the weekends from mid-April to mid-October and had thousands of people visiting the area Friday night through Sunday evening while still having them available for intramurals during the week. Think about how many people will be drawn to the new Field of Dreams Complex when it is finished!
Parking ramps are expensive but if they can somehow include one that would be huge. If Jamie really wants to copy P&L the underground parking ramp they have is the best feature and would be huge to supplement the lost football parking + more parking for basketball games.Less football parking = bad idea.
I could text easily all game at kinnick so maybe it was location dependent. Data was an absolute no go though.

Underground parking in a flood zone probably isn't the best plan.Parking ramps are expensive but if they can somehow include one that would be huge. Yeah, didn't think that one through. Above ground it is.Underground parking in a flood zone probably isn't the best plan.
I've been to a couple distilleries lately and like them better. You get their bourbons, whiskeys, vodka, whatever to make some nice mixed drinks, but since they don't make beer, you get a decent selection of beers and many times from different local breweries so you aren't tied to one.TG could still do a modest taproom and put a nice venue in this District. For that matter, any of the larger Iowa breweries could do this. In Cedar Falls TG put in a very small venue:
David's Taphouse and Dumplings
The rumor was that TB wanted a remote taphouse only, but brewery/licensing required them to offer food, so this was the compromise. I'd hope that something similar in this district would be physically larger for capacity, bigger menu, but the general model would be the same. Easy to support for any of the major breweries, if they want it.
You could have a swim up bar though.Yeah, didn't think that one through. Above ground it is.
Love that place. Great concept that wouldn't have to be much bigger than the one in Cedar Falls is to work really well in a development like this.TG could still do a modest taproom and put a nice venue in this District. That was eyesore for many years and have drastically changed that whole area. That development and Cedar Falls development of Main St. is exactly what Ames needs to duplicate.I know it is in the pit of the devil, but the area around Backpocket Brewing in Coralville does pretty well year round. Decent restaurants and retail.
