Nebraska gives Scott Frost much deserved extension to only fire him.

Way up there
Kind of just confirms that Trev was just waiting to pounce once the tables got turned enough against Frost. Any sign of life would rally the fan base, he had to do it now.

ISU wins the Cy Hawk, Huskers are in total meltdown mode, Iowa fans are eating their own...what a week!

Wasn't there rumors about him cheating on his wife semi publicly too? He's always seemed like a class A dbag so none of this is surprising.

There were Sark-like rumors going around as far back as two years ago.

There were rumors of his womanizing even going back to when he was at UNI.

I think @1UNI2ISU mentioned something about that a while back.

It's almost like frost sabatoged his program early in the season to get the 7.5 million extra.

I jokingly suggested this after the Georgia Southern game. If his options were to be fired after last season or that the $1m paycut ($5m to $4m) for 2022, Frost did manage to fleece them for another $2.8m or so in salary for this year. Pretty savvy to basically get $17.8m when the other option was $15m.

On the other hand, the buyout was due only if he was fired without cause. If these allegations are true, I'm wondering if Nebraska tries to claim the firing was for cause and skip paying the buyout. If that's the case, how ******* stupid do you have to be to lose out on $15m for not even giving the appearance of trying?

I think Scott Frost was unlucky, lost so many close games.

We have the same issue at ISU , if you go back and look through the last five years , so many one score loses due to the offense and special teams. ISU does not have the money or the choice.

Nebraska still has billionaire donors and they will not stand for this.

Perhaps last year as they were pretty close to getting to something else but their first three games wasn't bad luck.

Ya last year was the turnaround season and they had insane close losses. That was they kept him. But sometimes in football it is better to be lucky like Iowa then be good.

Not exactly sure.
Usually a complete staff overall doesn’t work right away because they have to get to know each other’s styles first and usually the head coach was a big part of the problems.

You’re seriously equating our last 5 seasons to Nebraska’s? Wow.

People say this, but how/why does Nebraska have so many high dollar donors? Is it as simple as being the only institution in the state? As, adding Iowa and ISU's donor pool together?

I mean, it's not like there's oil money or Nike money there. Dentists make a decent living, I guess.

Yeah that’s ridiculous. They lost those games because they had a poor culture that fell apart when the going got tough. Sure ISU has lost some close ones too, but we also have won a bunch. Nebraska was horrid in one score games.

One-score games often come down to a little luck, but when you're 5-19 over 4+ years it sure seems like something's going on. It seems like they earned a rep from a run of bad luck, which caused the coaches to press. Other coaches figured out they could play close games conservative and wait for Nebby to implode.

ISU is 15-18 in 1 score games the past 5 years. Not steller, but close to the 50/50 you'd expect. With us, it seemed like we couldn't get the game winning drive to take the lead more often than not.

That would have been the better way to go about it, if true. But reading the statement when they fired him leans heavily on the performance rather than NCAA infractions.

This doesn't explain it all, but here are a few factors:

Cheap pasture land in the sandhills has created a lot of wealth for cattle ranchers.

It's not oil, but the ogallala aquifer provides a valuable source of water to croplands in the Platte River Valley. The benefit is consistent crops every year. Alfalfa deep roots directly to the water table and row crops always have a source of irrigation.

Many small stakes investors in the state have evolved into millionaires largely due to buying a share or two of Berkshire Hathaway in the 70's & 80's. The local influence makes this more common than in most other states.
