I absolutely adore the original; own it on DVD and even saw The Christmas Story house in Cleveland. So, I'm tempted to check it out, but likely with tempered expectations.

They market what makes money. What do you think motivates the industry? You think they are forcing reboots and sequals on us through marketing because they like being jerks? Of course not. They push reboots and sequals because their market research shows it's easiest to sell what people are familiar with. It's not rocket science.

And I'm not saying your wrong, my point about original content was that it's harder and harder to find. Obviously there are enough people eating that stuff up, but there are many people like myself who can't stand them, and find it difficult to locate other interesting movies because those superhero movies suck up the air.

Oh for all that is holy, please kill me now. The first movie was the worst movie ever made, period. It should have been burned and thrown away. It makes me like viscerally mad when it’s on.

This is possibly worse than a meteor hitting on Christmas Day, being forced to watch Groundhog Day, learning that Putrid Petra’s was transferring to ISU, or having to sit in Kinnick Stadium and watch the Iowa Offense.

Damon has a clip where he talks about why there are no good new movies. The dissolution of the DVD market plays a part.
I think a lot of the best content is now TV shows or mini series. When I'm scrolling through Hulu, HBO or Netflix I'm almost always clicking on a series. That's what's usually new too. Doesn't seem like the streaming companies do as many movies anymore. And a lot of the Netflix original movies suck

So this is good news to you. If the first movie is the worst movie ever made, then this one can only be better than that!

I'm sorry. I like it, so you don't have to.

Every time I see that, I think of one of my younger sisters (or was it my brother) who licked an outside car door handle in the winter. I was actually playing elsewhere at the time - we lived on an acreage -- and didn't know or hear anything about it until after it happened.

I'm about 18 minutes into it, not very promising. Probably finish it in the morning

So I saw this trailer earlier today as well which prompted me to look it up and there was a sequel made in 2012, which I had never heard of.
This may be the third attempt that bounced off the original. If set today Ralphie would be ~82...more fitting for a grumpier old men sequel.

Watched it last night with my kids. No one should expect it to match the original as nothing could. It was a fun watch, not great by any means but enjoyed it.

It could have been hysterically amazing, but it was almost tamed down to market to the Hallmark Channel. They wrapped it up nicely and it was generally pretty good; a solid C+. I wish Netflix would get out of the way of just churning out mass appeal movies and take some risks.
