My point is that they'd almost certainly not want to expand that. I'm guessing all that will eventually just be ESPN+ (or go away to other providers).

And for ESPN is seems to make sense. Premium content out of tier 3 events..... genius

But this all has the feel of the local dealer. Hey, fans, here's all of the NHL, UFC, and college content you ever need. For just a low low price

Bwaa haaa ha ha Haaaaaa....raise the cost

I would rather have a big 12 network than be on ESPN plus so the production value could be higher, but realize it’s probably not feasible.

This stood out a bit as well
Honestly, the ACCN production quality isn't any better than the Big 12 stuff on ESPN+. They're all student supplemented broadcasts that use professional announcers. Same method, different distribution.

SEC Network is a little different because ESPN actually cares about that one and they know they have to compete with BTN in quality.

Yeah, I guess I was thinking Sec and btn when saying that.

The thing that drives me nuts about ESPN+ is that for basketball, they have these guys and ladies broadcasting out of their bedroom closets or basements. It's just a bland broadcast and I feel like the analysis usually suffers because they aren't in the building.

Having a Big 12 network may or may not fix that issue. Regardless, we probably aren't getting it. I get it.

This is one legitimate problem. My biggest problem is with the player. I'm paying for the service so I want to be able to fast forward and rewind and be able to tell how much I am fast forwarding and rewinding. Show me screen grabs as I fast forward or rewind so I know when I have reached the beginning of that play I wanted to see again or the end of the injury timeout. Also, make it more reliable so I don't get in some stupid loop that keeps throwing me back to the same point in the game no matter how much I rewind or fast forward. It doesn't happen often but it makes me reluctant to use the features at all because it totally hoses the game.

They could charge as much as they wanted if they could come up with a way to fast forward live games. It would be nice to be watching a game and know the outcome soon enough so you could run down to the stadium or arena and be there in time to celebrate on the field as soon as they won. :p

I'm not sure the PAC getting their deal done marginally before the Big 12 will really help them. There are schools that will slow play the GOR to see what the Big 12 gets for a deal so they can keep their options open. Unless the Big 12 opts to wait until the deal is expiring I really think the PAC is effed.

Just a guess but it seems like Big12 is going to get a deal done early/soon and not wait for it to expire.

Traditional networks seem to be a hit and miss situation
I was surprised ESPN wasn't more aggressive to include Longhorn Network in their bundle. Maybe they tried, but cable/streaming outlets told them to get lost.

Not sure if Longhorn Network is even available to purchase standalone.

By not having linear channels that cable & streaming platforms pay carriage fees, there are no barriers (other than subscription fee) for customers to purchase.

I will be curious how long BTN's carriage subsidized model can last.

Agree on the clunkiness of the ESPN+ platform.

Since Disney bundles Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+, you would think go forward they would invest software developer resources to design a single state-of-the-art platform.

you would think the big media players would be controlling who gets their deal done first or not.

They probably do- as long as conference agrees on deal parameters.

My guess is Pac12 could have had a deal done this summer with ESPN but didn't agree on valuation.

Agreed. I wonder if this could be addressed in the contract. Require that talent be onsite. Or better yet, as it is streaming and there aren't the limits on channels, just have each team's local radio do the commentary. For big games, you could have three steams with a national and the two locals. For the smaller weekday games you have two streams with just each team's announcers. Seems like a win win for everyone. ESPN saves on talent costs and the fans get to listen to who they want.

Typically the longer you wait the more you get. PAC had a lot at one point, then everyone else went to the table. SEC just thought they cashed in, then the B1G went to the table.
