Wash lost their QB last week. Too many young players on their line. They should just snap the ball to Watts McBride and run wildcat with two upperclassmen blocking backs in the backfield.
Damn that's a haul for Clarinda (the 2A Cardinal). Caught it on FB that they were traveling to Rock Valley and I had to look it up as I had never heard of it. Longest we ever traveled was when we played at Johnston my sophomore year, although Denison was almost as far. Of course we were 3A back then.
I knew he got hurt, didn't know how bad. I saw him in a boot at school earlier this week. This won't be pretty.

Some years back when the state temporarily had 32-team playoff fields for all classes, Mason City qualified for the big-school class.
At 1-8.
Since their sole win was over a winless team in their district, they finished fourth out of five, and since the top four teams in each district qualified, they were in.
Between independent/school/local (free) streams and NFHS Network ($), it looks like there's known video for 48 of the 56 games tonight.

Davenport North 2015: 1-3/1-8
46 teams in the class, so two of the eight districts had 5 teams instead of 6. North beat Central to get the playoff spot.
Mason City 2012: 1-3/1-8
The first year that the West was in divisions (4), while the East was still in conferences. The west had 23 teams (Centennial was starting the next season), so one division had 5 teams. Mason City beat Hoover for the playoff spot.

Do you mean Epps-Keller or Cain? I’m broadcasting the game tonight and according to Wash Epps-Keller is listed to start. I know Cain was the starter the first part of the season but Epps-Keller had been playing more lately.

Also, speaking of injured QBs, Prairie’s quarterback Cal Sullivan broke his ankle in the game against Linn-Mar last week and is done for the playoffs. While Prairie is a run-first system anyway, you might think this doesn’t change things much, but Sullivan accounted for 612 yards and 6 TDs on the ground as well as 995 yards passing. That’s a huge loss for Prairie (there were only 11 passes attempted by other players all year), and with them facing the same Linn-Mar team that beat them by 2 scores last week, they have a big challenge before them.
Of course the winner will almost certainly just lose to Southeast Polk next week, but still …

From Feb. 2020:
"Playoff recommendations out of December’s (2019) meeting of the IHSAA football advisory committee, headlined by a proposal for an eight-game regular season and 32 playoff qualifiers in each of Class 3A, 2A, 1A, A, and Eight-Player, were denied by the board on Wednesday.
The postseason featured 32 qualifying teams per class from 2008 to 2015, and consistent requests from the advisory committee and Iowa Football Coaches Association to return to that expanded field were heard, but put on hold during the unique one-year scheduling cycle."
Valley lost the monopoly on western suburban talent, which is now split up amongst the two Waukee schools, Johnston, Van Meter and Dallas Center-Grimes. Their run is about finished, just like the hoks. What a shame. Nice stadium however.
It’s a formal agreement, however valley gets all of the concession money along with the rental fee. Dowling would rather help out the east side, so they go there for playoff games. It will be interesting to see what happens when the shiny new field being built next to the Knapp Center gets finished.

We had Lenox last week for Rd 1. They look like a solid 8 man team this year. CAM/Lenox will be a good 8 man game tonight.
We didn't get to advance as a crew so we're done for the year.
