Backup QBs from Baylor, Texas Tech & KSU step & the teams don't lose a beat. We continue to struggle with our starter.

Reason?

Coaching
I will add in KSU's defense Will Howard should have clearly been starting over Martinez anyway. He has completely transformed that offense in the time he has been in there last week and this week.

KU is also hanging points on everyone with a backup QB and backup RB. Tell me how much better the KU talent is than ours.

I don't recall seeing KSU with a bunch of highly rated classes either. Their starting QB was a disaster at Nebby.

We don't have a talent issue. This is scheme and coaching.

The 'coaching' issue can include evaluating talent for what your plan is regardless of the recruiting rating.

Overall the physical ability of the others seem to be better than ISU.

Like ISU's running backs aren't going to be coached to be faster.

I hear CW and crew on the postgame talking about how close ISU is and how similar that is to TCU and KSU from last year. That may be true, but those programs have something in common…both made coaching changes. TCU wholesale and a new OC for the purple kittens. Hmm……i wonder what does it take to get over the “we are close hump….” CMC has to make the tough decisions to move forward. Thinking the offense and OL are going to magically get better is pure insanity.

Please tell me they aren't pumping that sunshine.

We aren't "close". Teams know that if it is close, we can't close the deal. We won't take the chances necessary to win.

It is cruel if they are indeed doing this to the loyal ISU fanbase.

It’s not that the call was obvious (and my God, it was). It’s that literally NO ONE was prepared with a play or the call. Dekkers is standing there, confused, waiting for a decision, waiting for a play call.

It absolutely is a scheme and a coaching issue. For those that care to notice, the exact same issues have existed year after year after year.

I mean ISU had top half of conference stats for many years with overall fringeish NFL talent (Lazard, Hall and DM being the exceptions) and no NFL talent in the Oline.

They had some dudes that could make some plays and wanted to.

Don't get me wrong: the overall approach looks disjointed and has for a long time. This season though I'm seeing quite a disparity.

LBs are slow covering off tackle runs and pass routes. Brock is also a step slow. DBs were the only good unit today. QB is not good, and based on history, won’t be any better next year. ISU has the #106 rated offense. If this is a “rebuilding “ year anyway, why not go all in and change OC?

KSU also got rid of their OC and have Klein at the helm. Great coaches make tough decisions.

We will find out how good of a coach Campbell is and if he can make tough decisions. Or will he just be stubborn and stick with his buddies?
I am afraid much of the blame for the offense lies with CMC. He approves and allows the play calling each week and game. He allows the OC, OL and QB coaching to continue without apparent check, or enough check.

What he needs to do, and I don't know if he will or can do it, is to replace the OC, replace the OL coach (and QB coach maybe also), and make some good hires. Then he needs to let go and let them do their jobs. Some direction and scheming control, yes, but otherwise get out of their way. [If he doesn't have his hands on the offense, however, then he needs to get more involved with it. But I don't think this is the case.]

I would be OK with Scheehaase being promoted to OC, and Manning demoted to OL coach, although I'm not sure if this would be ideal. If Scheelhaase is ready and has some new ideas and direction, sure, great. But he may be part of the same old offensive scheme and thought patterns that we currently have.

We might/do need new blood on the offensive coaching side. If the defense can do it at ISU, with Heacock and his coaches, the offense can to. But it needs a fresh start. A fresh start also means getting a ST coach. It at least means hiring coaches that can get better ST results.

Coach Campbell needs to look inwardly, make some strong changes, and cut his losses now. If he does not, he will likely lose current players, and incoming recruits, for next year.

The announcers at the end of the game said that CMC told them that ISU was in it's 3rd rebuild right now.... that can't be true, right?

You shouldn't have 3 rebuilds in 7 years.

Problem with that statement is the defense isn't rebuilding. It's built.

What happens when they actually do take a step back to "rebuild". Maybe next season?

The offense better be capable of putting up some numbers or it's going to be a long, long season again.

No.........the offensive line is just that bad. I'm beginning to be of the line of thinking that the O line has never really been good under CMC. Just had NFL RB's to make it look better.
This! It makes you wonder what the past few years could’ve been with a good OL. ISU has sent a lot of guys to the NFL the past few years and no OL. Myers has to go and the S&C coach needs to do better with those guys.
The defensive staff has continued to develop players and the offensive staff has not.
I’d be interested to know which NFL guys Golesch was the recruiter for. HUGE mistake by Campbell letting him leave!!!!

If there is one thing I am not willing to criticize with the offensive coaching staff it is RB talent eval. Their last 3 primary backs going back to the Toledo days are in the NFL. Brock was higher rated than Breece coming in and Breece was having a rookie of the year type season before his injury. Everything else we do with offense, barf.

I would think Karl Weathers (Nick Offerman) can help us! We will overcome and provide justice for Iowa State once and for all.

Probably could hurt ticket sales and possibly upcoming Cytown interest

Hopefully Cytown blacks out ISU games on TV so folks have the option to be blissfully unaware of offensive atrocities being committed down the street
