is it though? $2 billion divided by a 6 year contract spread across 12 schools doesn’t come out to $50 million per year per school. What am I missing?
You are missing that this is only the media deal. The 50M+ number being spoken about includes all income, from bowls, sponsorships, NCAA tourney, etc.

Tier 3. CFP and NCAA Tournament money. That’s on top

While that is on top and we don’t know what the CFP terms will be, those rights like tourney money and CFP are things that every P5 conference will get. I get that a lot of people are reporting a 10mil difference but I’m really interested to see what the PAC final numbers actually are plus what the term of the deal is.

It’s probably safe to assume the PAC 12 doesn’t have as good of an offer. Otherwise they would have that contract signed. Immediately.

To get a decent increase. 6 year deal. On Fox and ESPN. Much better than streaming.

Oh for sure it’s not as good of a deal. How far off is the real question and what terms would the big 12 give them. The new schools aren’t getting a full cut from what I heard, would be interesting to see what the offer was to the PAC.

Streaming is a joke. If you want your league to die go ahead and put yourself on a streaming service.

This TV deal is great and anyone that has, or is, saying streaming is the future and is a good thing is completely fooling themselves.
No one under 30 has cable, they do have amazon prime and netflix though. It's all the same thing in the end we'll be paying more than we ever did with cable... but streaming is the future

Netflix is losing subscribers with their price hike. No one under 30 has cable but they do have YouTube tv and Hulu tv which are the same thing. In reality “streaming” where you can watch live sports and cable are almost indistinguishable

Streaming in this regard refers to Amazon prime and Apple TV+, also ESPN+ where there is no package for it in cable, YouTube TV, etc.

Agreed.

For me personally, I have YouTubeTV only for sports (Football and Basketball season). Outside of that, all of my television entertainment comes from YouTube, Netflix, HBO Max, and sometimes Amazon.

I’d say most of my television time comes from YouTube and content creators.

Overall, how we consume television is shifting to an on demand model. The days of being in front of a TV at a specific time and day is going away.

As a reference, I’m 35.

But you are using a streaming interface to watch sports on a cable channel. That’s different than watching sports on Netflix.

What nobody is talking about is how the ACC is contracted through 2036 at 38MM per school and the new Big 12 deal will be around 50MM. The Big 12 will even have another renegotiation in 2031 as well. The Big 12 is the clear #3 payout league for the foreseeable future. Great news for stability and potentially attracting more teams.

I think the reason why no one is talking about it is because the Big12 was always going to be third. Only people who disagreed were pac12 writers.

What really matters is just how far this will be from the top 2, right?

"This extension will mark the end of what's known as third-tier rights for the Big 12, in which schools controlled certain game inventory. Instead, those third-tier rights will be distributed to ESPN, which means the schools no longer have to sell them." No such thing as T3 rights according to the last line.

Not going to lie, I was a little nervous having no football "blue bloods" was going to potentially destroy the league. Fortunately for the Big 12 that wasn't the case. The new Big 12 deal could have been greater with UT and OU were still in the league but now the cancer (Texas) is out of the Big 12. Only time will tell if Texas destroys (SWC)/nearly destroys (Big 12) another league.
