love this. we add schools in wrestling only, why not do it in basketball as well?
You could even make a case for teams like Nova and Creighton
Don’t want to be the new Old Big East though.

I’m going to state the obvious but not necessarily an opinion….
The more elite BB schools brought into the already toughest league, the harder the ladder will be each year. Especially for a horrible NIL player in the world of free/fee agency.
They're already a well-known brand. If they're making comparable Power 5 MBB money in the Big 12, surely they could pay for another high profile coach if they wanted to. They've managed to keep the one they have all these years. The hard part about that is that that almost all comes under one coach, mark few.
Few won't be there forever. If they fall off when he leaves, they could fall off big. Its not like they have inherent advantages there.
They aren't horrible for MBB.you think ISU isn't a horrible NIL player (regardless of sport)?

Syracuse for a "New York state of mind" commissioner makes a lot of sense. What if....you add Gonzaga, and as a result you have far and away the best basketball conf and down the road that helps lure in the ACC basketball powers. Duke, Syracuse...etc. about that same time the NCAA tournament gets rebid, maybe you cut out the NCAA totally. And it prevents the sec and big 10 from breaking away.
I don't know, seems a little crazy, but I've heard of worse ideas.
Somebody ISU can beat in football!Nebraska could disband its Football program and send the best 25 players to Gonza for starters.
Not crazy. Many people think this. The Big 12 doesn't need to subsidize the NCAA and SEC basketball. What if....you add Gonzaga, and as a result you have far and away the best basketball conf and down the road that helps lure in the ACC basketball powers. Basketball. Because football isn't available.I was thinking Syracuse if they become available because Yormark seems to be leaning into basketball and national branding.
When the tide rises, all boats are lifted.I don't see the benefit. It would be a step back image wise. What other major conferences have a bball or fb only team? We would be seen as little brother, and while adding a top tier bball team, it just lowers everyone else.
What we "gain" in ncaa bball money, we lose by getting 1 or 2 fewer other tourney teams already in our conference.
Unless they're tied up too tight, then some go underWhen the tide rises, all boats are lifted.
The Pac 12 is doing their best at this right nowUnless they're tied up too tight, then some go under![]()
IMHO if you want to be a NATIONAL BRAND then you are going to have to take in schools like Gonzaga and hopefully Creighton as Basketball Only Schools!

I thought for the Big12 to get the full escalator any future Big12 adds must be current P5 teams.I'm sure they have ironclad contracts and a whole zoo full of lawyers reviewing the contracts but are we 100% sure the media deal has the escalator only for FB school adds. It would be funny if the Big 12 got the full escalator for adding a school to the conference as a full member who didn't have FB. Then they pay Gonzaga what they should get for providing content without FB - and split the rest of the windfall between the other 12 members.
And, yes I know that Big 12 bylaws require full members to have a football program but the Big 12 members can change their own rules whenever they want to.
