I've seen Iowa on other sites ranked like #7.

The south’s sweet tea consumption gives them an automatic advantage.
Ya one of my favorite things to do while down there is to always ask for unsweetened tea even when I know they don't have it. Just to watch the person serving me have a seizure.

It’s so gross to go back to rural Iowa and I just see the used diabetes needles everywhere.

Different kind of drugs, same problems.
At least when we moved from DM metro to rural small town, the elementary rural kids seemed more fit. At least a higher percentage would get the presidential physical fitness award. That may have changed since my kids were in school though. I think there is probably more than enough obesity throughout the state.

One issue is poverty though. Crappy cheap processed food that is affordable is also terrible for you.

And is more accessible in more places which is contributing to obesity in general.

Add in that we convinced ourselves that eating healthy has to be complex and expensive and it's a bad deal.

I taught all of my sons to cook, but they still all rely on takeout way too much because after work they just want to unwind and not bother with cooking and dishes. Restaurant food is loaded with fat and sodium, that’s why it’s tasty. None of them seem to be packing on weight but I don’t want them to need statins when they are 50 either
