Think this MEX v POL matchup could be good. Pretty evenly matched squads and both feisty. Hopefully they don’t have the same ref we had yesterday.

I think what makes the World Cup so enjoyable even for a person like me that doesn't watch much soccer is that it combines the whole global element like the Olympics but adds in the psycho fan element (like super passionate collegiate fans but on a whole country scale). A lot of these countries are so passionate about soccer and these crowds have all been really good (except England and Qatar in the 2nd half).

Mexico dominated the first half but couldn't find the net. They made Poland look slow all over the field.

I'll be legitimately impressed if Poland manages to win this. Mexico has come up with about every 50/50 ball all match long.

Exactly right, and nothing else have ever been able to duplicate that combination.

Am I crazy thinking that it was a clear penalty?
I have no idea what Donovan was talking about - it looked like a clear penalty to me. If it was just the shirt tugging, sure, but when the defender brought his leg across and took out Lewandowski's legs, that made it a clear penalty to me

This is just so wrong. First there wasn't a WC in 2008. Hard to tell if you meant 06 or 10.

Second 1998 was a disaster. It started with roster selection and then play in the group was a huge disappointment. Last in group.

2006 was a massive let down. End up last in the group off a quarter final in 2002.

So this is just wrong.

I wasn't a part of this thread earlier so I don't know context, just saw this post full of BS.

About today, we had an opportunity that we let slip away and our job is much tougher now because of it. Everything still to play for tho
Since 1990 here is the following outcome of the WC
1990-First time since 1950. 0-3 23rd
1994-Round of 16 -1-1-2
1998-Group state 0-3
2002-Quarter-Finals (8th place overall) 2-1-2
2006-Group 1-2
2010-Round of 16 1-2-1 12th place
2014-Round of 16 1-1-2
2018-DNQ
2022-TBD

@Gunnerclone sentiment was not all wrong.
