Just having other levels without possible access to MLS doesn’t help fan/population engagement in my population. If I lived in a town that had a USL team I probably wouldn’t care much. Glorified friendly matches is what their games would feel like to me.
On the other end of the spectrum, FC Cincinnati had GREAT fan supposrt during their USL days and helped them leap to MLS.

I miss the World Cup. They got me hooked with the daily action and now I have to wait 2 days before the next match. Are you kidding me? Send those players out there with a days rest and give me my daytime soccer. They didn't give the construction workers days off, why should the guys playing a game get better treatment?

It would probably be cheesy, but, in the down time, I'd love to see some kind of skills/shooting competition for former players/media personalities of each country.

They could divide up the proceeds and donate them to various charities. It would give people a chance to see some of their favorite players without the animosity that normally accompanies a typical match. I think fans would eat that up.

You understand this event is being run by FIFA, right? If there is any sort of additional revenue coming in, it's going into their pockets.

But maybe schedule the U20 WC to correspond to these dates and have those knock-out round matches on the off days of the WC?

Oh, I completely understand the corruption. That's why doing something like this would be a great way to garner some good will. I realize it will never happen, but I still think it would be great for all parties involved.

You could mic up some of the people and catch some smack talk while you're at it. Someone like Beckham or Dempsey giving others crap during a shoot-out competition, for example. I just think there's potential to bring a little levity to the event without taking away from the drama on match days.

You can see the Brazilian's attack is imbalanced - always goes from their right flank because their left backs are injured and their right back is playing as a left back today

People will think this boring because “no scoring” but this is an epic battle of strategy.

Yes.

While I specifically called out the goalkeep, even more credit should go to Croatia’s defense for largely shutting the Brazil juggernaut down like they have. Much of the reason why he’s looked so good today is because the defense has largely kept it easy for him, even if he’s has to stop shots. They’ve for the most part been kicked directly into him.

The runs Brazil makes and the inherent knowledge to try and pick out those runs for guys that don’t play together that much is insane. It’s their DNA.

Left back about to come in. I’m sure he is hurt, but maybe can give them 20 minutes of good play.
