Texas just signed four 5 star recruits and eleven 4 star. There is one school that loves all the new landscape of portal and NIL!!! I'd say we beat them 3 years in a row just in time. They will spend their way back to the top.
It's never been a lack of talent at Texas it's 100% an entitled culture and that isn't getting fixed.

Sark has had UT ranked #9 in 2020 and #15 in 2021. Since pay to play was approved, their 2022 class was #5 and 2023 is #3.

Their is a SIGNIFICANT increase in the quality of recruits since Sark got the job.
AND, he is actually (seemingly anyways) slowly correcting some of the culture issues. While I don't like the dude, I'd still put more money on him getting them turned around than failing there - which I wouldn't have said for their past couple coaches.

Now, it also has to be put into perspective. I think he'll get them to a spot where they would dominate the Big 12, but that is much different than going up against Bama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, etc. In theory, he should be able to get them to compete with that group annually, but that is way too much faith to put into any coach until proven.

But how often will they have to play those teams with an 8 game conference schedule. SEC worse than b10 in scheduling for max wins. They will play vandy and SC every year.

That's why it's so hard to predict. I assume they'll eventually be a consistent Top 10 team (with Sark or somebody else down the road), but to get to the Top 5 they're either going to have to be elite or only face 1-2 of those elite teams per year.

I think he has the potential to do it. But will the UT ego-boosters give him the time to do it? If he needs 4 years, but goes 8-4 again, will he get a 4th year?

Great point. I would guess they go 9-3. Losing Bijan hurts and it's hard to expect Manning to take over from day 1, but I wouldn't rule it out unless Ewers makes some good strides in the offseason.

They have 2 cupcakes and Bama in the non-con so let's pencil in 2-1. Obviously we don't know the 2023 schedule, but assuming TX and OU are still here, I'd see TX as favorites in just about every game. TCU will take a step back. OSU is in rebuild mode. KSU will likely be strong again. ISU maybe middle of the pack. OU is a wildcard.

Crappy year and 24 in the portal. Worked like a charm
I have a really hard time believing NIL discontent accounted for most or all of their issues. But, it also can't be ruled out because they had a really ****** year - especially given the talent they brought in.

Could also be that Jimbo is a pretty pedestrian 83-41 without Jameis when you consider the jobs he's had...
Fully agree that's a big part of it. I think he's a good recruiter and mediocre coach that has usually underachieved based on the talent he's had. Furthermore, I think his demands on the QB limit how good that position can typically be, which impacts everything else. I think he's past his prime and don't think is prime was ever that good.

I didn't realize so many people had faith in Sark.
I don't.

The stress of living in a fishbowl down there will eventually cause a relapse in his drinking issues. Texas football is important enough that it may be swept under the rug (unlike basketball apparently), but it will erode the program over time.
