Completely agree,

Bill had a chance to develop those defined bench roles during non con play and failed to do so. And that will put a ceiling on what this roster can accomplish, even with a healthy Soares. Exhibit A of this is Bill's refusal to use Donarski as a backup PG and use motion offense when Ryan is out in an effort to avoid Ryan getting burned out and reducing the quality of her play. For example, Bill played Ryan 40 minutes when they beat TT at Lubbock by 23 points. There is no rational explanation for Bill to do that.

Players earn court time in practice - if they are not showing that they can do what it takes to perform in the games why would they be rewarded with playing time. As @acoustimac said - we have no idea what goes on in practice so to say that X player should get more court time is baseless if they have not performed in games to date. If you want to criticize that they have not recruited more depth that is a different conversation.

As I recall, two of Kane's fouls were just establishing post positioning and were way away from the action. At the time, I thought what the hell was that foul as it did not affect the game at the time and was no different that what I see all the time in the post.

And I know that I am looking at things through cardinal colored glasses but seemed like a cou0le of Emily's found were just brush fouls and no different that what you see on almost every time down the court.

I remember Ashley being mauled after a rebound and nothing was called.

I felt like the officiating was incredibly inconsistent as well. There were also times when we fouled hard and weren’t called.

Sorry, but playing Ryan 40 minutes at TT in a 23 point blowout win is not a function of practice performance. It either being stubborn or something else on Bill's end.

Donarski is highly capable of playing PG in a motion offense in similar fashion to how Otz uses Holmes when Lipsey is on the bench. And if MEM is having significant practice issues (which I doubt is the case), then use Diew in a lineup with Ashley J, Fritz, Kane and Lexi to avoid burning out Ryan. And as previously posted, the burn out or fatigue factor with Ryan impacted her defense late vs OU. And again, this is unrelated to the status of Soares, Ryan's existing usage was always going to put a ceiling on ISU's potential results.

I would make some comments but the P5 coaches who know everything (and comment on here) that happens in practice and the condition of the players would just tell me I am wrong. While I don't always agree with the line up on the floor the coaching staff know what the players should be able to give and play them accordingly. We can speculate forever but only those in the gym know best.

I think what is lacking is our teams ability to make a post entry pass.
maybe I am wrong, but is our shooting percentage way down this year?
hoping for the best for Soares.

While watching that game I thought 40 minutes was curious. Was thinking more the unnecessary risk of injury than fatigue. Not like with a million point lead you were going fast and full out 100%. Maybe they were trying to get her a triple double? She ended up a rebound short.

Anyway, doubt we see much change going forward. If there is one thing consistent with ISU WBB it is that nothing really changes once it is set.

Fennelly certainly goes hard with the starters, and he always has. The difference now is we have three players eating up those minutes simultaneously, which is killing our bench experience.

Copying this from the records thread:

CAREER AVERAGES

Minutes Per Game (Two Season Minimum):
1. Stacy Frese (1998-2000): 34.84
2. Lexi Donarski (2021-23): 34.59

4. Jayme Olson (1995-98): 34.28
5. Emily Ryan (2021-23): 34.09
6. Ashley Joens (2019-23): 33.91
7. Seanna Johnson (2014-17): 33.75
8. Nikki Moody (2012-15): 32.74
9. Anne O'Neil (2003-05): 32.74

Maybe a little less dribbling for most of the shot clock and not looking for a pass to anyone until it’s to late might help

When I saw players drive at and by Ryan at the end of the game I never thought it was fatigue. It was more a result of her playing with four fouls and trying to stay in the game.
Exactly, the play he is talking about Ryan closed out to fast/quick, got beat to the lane and instead of fouling out she was unable to recover the way she would without the 4 fouls it was not fatigue.

By the way, the player in question not getting enough minutes is also because of her speed on defense, which I am sure has to do with her injuries, but just like Izzy, she is a big liability on defense. Coaching is not easy but ours has been pretty successful over his 28 years at ISU, so I will side with him.
