There are way more people in here saying "wow everyone needs to settle down, we aren't good or talented so expecting to win any B12 games, let alone ones on the road is silly" than people melting down. Not sure where the idea that there's a massive meltdown is coming from, except from people who want to be sure everyone knows that they expect nothing and are the most righteous and best among us.

Point blank, this team was tied for first in the B12 and lost a very winnable game today. There is still everything this team wants ahead of it, and unfortunately for some of you on here, I'm sure they want to compete for a B12 title.

A whole lot of loser talk on here, just because you don't dare to dream of big things doesn't mean the team can't or won't push to achieve those big things. I'm excited to see what they can learn from this loss and how they respond next week.

Name one person who is saying ISU isn't good or talented and shouldn't win any B12 games.

Cite it.

We were still up double digits first half but when they banked in their SECOND three pointer you had to know it was headed for one of those games. Then in the second half they hit one prayer of a shot clock beating three and another off an oh so close steal by Holmes that left a player open in the corner. Those four plays were worth 12 points. Throw in us shooting 2-9 from three, missed free throws late, two basic layups by Jones...you get the picture. I said when we were up 16 it seemed like we actually should be up 30.
They had a lot of 3s they lucked out on but they also missed 12 FTs (16/28). So it kind of evens out. Anyone else think the foul they called on Lipsey on the 3 pt attempt was bogus? Looked like the shooter was trying to target him to initiate contact

Watching their coach Boynton climbing into the stands yelling and fist pumping to the (small) crowd of fans after being gifted by the referees.... made me realize that payback is coming hard
Yeah that was weird... I've never seen a coach act like that after a win. I mean it's a good win for OSU but they were favored by a point and it was over #12. It isn't like they knocked off some undefeated #1 or something.

To them beating us was like knocking off a highly rated opponent which doesn’t happen very often anymore at Oklahoma state so they have to do this celebration when they get the chance!!

They won at #1 Baylor last year and #12 Texas Tech.

Like I wrote earlier, if T.J. had done the same exact thing Cyclone Fanatic would be ready to build a statue of him for how passionate he is about ISU.

Boynton's actions after the game don't bother me at all, to be honest. I did notice that he and T.J. shared a "bro hug" in the handshake line, so there appears to be some genuine affection and respect there (and on that note T.J. adores Bill Self as well).

I actually take it as a compliment to us that beating us is such a cause for celebration.

I dont blame Boynton for celebrating. I'm guessing his seat is getting warm, and a win like this helps their chances of getting into the tournament. That said, I hope we beat them by 20 in Hilton.

Personally I'd think it would be a little over the top if TJ did that. It's not a huge deal and it's fine for a coach to be excited I just thought it was a little weird. I like Boynton too he seems like a really cool guy.

I’m sure this has been discussed, but can someone explain how Avery Anderson was credited with making 2 FTs on that Lipsey “foul” in the early minutes of the 2nd half? Might have been OSU’s first 2nd half possession.

I know, for a fact, we were up 12 when that play happened. Lipsey was called for a “foul” on a 3 point attempt my Anderson.

I saw Anderson miss the 1st of the 3 FTs, make the 2nd, and miss the 3rd. At the end that series, we were up 10.

Did I miss a lane violation and a 4th FT? I had to have.
Yes, some lane violation on Grill who was standing above the circle. If I remember correctly, you have ro stay above the top of the key. Did not see him move below that, but thst has to be what it was.

That's what I said and am saying. A whole lot of people rushing out to say "ah well shucks we were never gonna REALLY compete and you're all stupid for thinking otherwise" when they're absolutely still in the thick of things.

I just don't understand why some of the people on here watch when apparently all they hope for is a solid effort. This squad of players, as high or low of expectations you (not you specifically, but every ISU fan) had coming into the year, has shown they can play at a very high level. Bottoming out and finishing around or below .500 in conference given how they started and what they've shown they can play like, should be a disappointment to fans and absolutely would be to the team.

Could it happen? Sure. Would there still be a bright future? Absolutely. But my goodness some of y'all need to dare to dream a little bit. ISU doesn't have to be a loveable loser forever, even though that's where some fans seem to be most comfortable. Expectations are good.

What were your preseason predictions Mr. expectations?

Yeah, with a healthy Caleb Grill. The offense looked completely lost today without him. If this back thing goes on all year it could ruin our season.
I am hoping that we are able to adapt after a week without Grill being obviously injured. He, and pretty every piece of this puzzle is very important. However, we have had very little time to make adjustments to both Grill and Jaz being out. It may take some creativity / advanced scheming that might take a week or so to engrain into the team.

Prolly held off until a weird loss to come swooping in with this take:

- if you don't think ISU will win the conference, you're being righteous with a loser's mentality and must fail a lot in life.
-you should just expect the team to win the conference after this start because the season just trends the same way all the time. The team and fans should be in line with what a 'good' season looks like because seeding is still so important in college basketball in late January even if recent history says otherwise.

*Eventually as the losses pile up a bit the 'I wasn't a fan of the hire' will slip out from a few posters because all in all they want to see ISU fail so they can say they were right. It's quite a twist.

There was mention that Grill's back is sore or something which hopefully means it can be worked out/heal.

No injuries last year is turning on its head now. Hopefully things evolve to full strength over the next month and ISU can pull off a few more wins in the process.

I've written it before, but yes; we had a lot of luck last season when it came to injuries, or lack thereof.

Certainly not having that same luck this season, but thankfully, unlike last season, we have the depth to overcome it.

ISU has more depth this year thankfully. The silver lining has been the trial by fire for Lipsey, King, Watson and Ward has been successful. There are a lot of guys on the team that we will have a hell of a time replacing while out. Grills definitely towards the top of that list. Hopefully our guys can grind out some wins over the next several games and are back to full strength for a push down the stretch.

Never going to say having Jaz or Grill wouldn't have helped to beat OSU.

But the guys we had, could have got the job done if they made shots they normally do and if we stayed aggressive.

We also have to figure a way to be a great defense, without trapping or being so willing to switch. That and understanding how refs are calling a game to defend without putting the opposition on the line 20+ times a game.
