I found it interesting that Ross Dellenger went out of his way multiple times to say that the Big 12 may be talking to SMU as well. It’s just conjecture, but he’s as plugged in as it gets, so he’s probably at least hearing something behind the scenes. He talked about a “turf war” that’s going on between Yormark and Kliavkoff on multiple fronts.

Will be interesting to see what happens. It’s the first topic they cover below:

The big 12 has zero reason to take SMU and that would be a massive mistake. So far the new commish has been awesome, doubt he would make an unforced error like that.

That was my first reaction as well. There would have to be A LOT going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about to get me on board. I just don’t see how diluting the product further is a positive.

If it wasn’t someone like Ross Dellenger, I probably would have dismissed it as bs right away.

I'd think adding programs just for the sake of adding programs would be the last thing the Big 12 would want to do. It's just going to make everyone's already smaller cut of the media rights pie even smaller. I understand there may be an escalator clause but I can't imagine Tulane, UNLV, Colorado St., etc. would trigger enough of a jump in value to warrant four new plates at the table.

Nobody should be added that isn't P5, and a good one at that. Unless the tides turn toward 20 team conferences and somehow the Pac survives, then, maybe, you look at crappers like these.

That was my first reaction as well. There would have to be A LOT going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about to get me on board. I just don’t see how diluting the product further is a positive.

Talk to them to get the PAC to panic and grab a few bad teams. Tick off UW and UO and get them to come out way.

This seems like a battle that doesn't need to be fought at all. SMU isnt a good add for us in any real way right now

I'd think adding programs just for the sake of adding programs would be the last thing the Big 12 would want to do. It's just going to make everyone's already smaller cut of the media rights pie even smaller. Those would all be hot garbage adds. If Yormark wanted to add any of those schools he should be fired immediately.

I think is more likely that the light interest for SMU/SDSU B12 rumors have been floated by those schools to get the attention of the PAC10 and try to get some leverage to get an equal share of the revenue earlier if invited.
If the Big 12 wanted either school they'd would have been invited in the last go around. SMU doesn't add anything considering the current footprint of the B12. SDSU in theory would add a LA presence but I a dubious that is the actual case as USC/UCLA have trouble drawing currently and is far better than SDSU.

Absolutely correct. I think the PAC situation just has to play itself out. The B12 doesn't need to try to cut off PAC expansion options because all of the options available probably only make the PAC's position worse. There's nothing available that strengthens their position. Similarly, trying to head off those options just decreases the B12's advantage over the PAC and hurts their chances of competing with the ACC leftovers in the next round of realignment.

The fact that the PAC hasn't made any moves since USCLA broke is pretty telling, IMO. OR, WA and (maybe) Stanford are probably in no hurry to finalize anything since they're still hoping the B10 reconsiders on additional expansion. Utah, AZ, ASU and (maybe) CO would probably be happy to stay in the PAC so long as they were getting close to B12 money. The rest are just along for the ride.

Yeah the pac is in major trouble and I’m legit not sure how this plays out. In theory the corner schools have a home but Oregon and Washington are probably the biggest brands. Would the Big12 add 6 more schools? What happens to the left over 4? Just a major unknown.

Wonder if it’s even possible for the ACC to add schools since geography is being thrown out the window a bit.

Yep legit don’t know if an addition would allow that “escape” if it does it’s a non starter. I have never heard one way or another if it does. I just don’t see any way this plays out that allows the pac to remain whole unless they give Amazon some insane deal.

SMU isn’t moving the needle for anybody, not even the PAC.

Not to say they won’t invite them out of panic, it’s just not a good idea if anyone stops to think about it for two seconds.
