If he wasn’t recruiting as well as he is I would be concerned about ever being good enough offensively to compete at a high level, but still overachieving with team, doesn’t make this loss any worse and mean he can’t be criticized though.

What is your definition of competing at a high level?

Not exactly sure.
Obviously WVU felt it too, they got their @sses kicked today. Our game with them was a war and it took a lot out of both teams. We killed KU because we were fresh, if you guys recall, we played on Monday so we got 4 1/4 days rest when we took the court against them
That’s why I said if TJpracticed them hard today, it’s on him.

Any chance they are mentally exhausted from practice? The announcers were talking about how hard they were working earlier today
wait what? Good God I hope they are not doing something like that this late in the year. If so maybe that would explain why they looked a step slow and tired.

Yeah, I remember all that, I dont remember any of them having stretches where they woul lose 6 out of 8 though like this.

I think we did the same thing last year where we lost 6 out of 8 halfway through the year.

This seems to be a Prohm and TJ phenomenon where they hit a rough patch then can't stop the free fall.

1987-88 season. Iowa State lost 8 out of 9 games during the Conference season.

Remember 2 seasons ago? We won 2 games. We were winless in Conference. This is nothing like that.

And there's plenty of seasons where they've lost like 5/7, 3/5 in stretches, etc. It's a group that does the most with less in a conference whose best teams have really rough patches.

I'm curious to see how Wednesday looks.

I would like to completely hijack this thread with a convo I was having. Would you trade TJ for anyone in college basketball giving the uniqueness of the sport and his investment here? If you think football we all love Campbell but would take Saban and Smart but does basketball have that guy better for us?

I read this as today Jess Settles said they were practicing hard. They didn’t have a hard practice today. Jeez guys.

So you're saying TJ has them do up downs and killers for every missed free throw at shoot around?

Yeah, hopefully we don't end up a 12 seed like that team although 11 is probably the lowest an at-large Power 5 team will get in this era.

The 2-22 team isn't what I'm going for at all. I'm thinking teams like Prohms 2019 team who were really good and looked like Big 12 champion material, then fell apart at the end.

Actually, being a 12 or an 11 seed is better for a team like Iowa State than being an 8-9 or a 7-10 if the goal is to get to the Sweet 16. All of the teams in the 5 to 12 range are equally tough, but it makes a difference only having to play a 3 or 4 instead of 1 or 2 seed in the 2nd round.

That team imploded but by all accounts was toxic and had multiple NBA players.

I'll be surprised if TJ doesn't handle things better.

Yeah, that team had way more talent than this years team, that's what made that year so frustrating.

When they really turned it on they could beat anybody like the Big 12 tourney run, then turn around and lose to a bad Big 10 team.

Orr lost 8 of 11 to finish 92, 8 out of 12 to finish 88 (and lost 7 in a row at one point). Floyd lost 7 out of 10 to finish the season in 95, 4 out of 8 to finish 96. All tournament teams.

Fred was the only coach that had sustained success at Iowa State (more than 2 tournament appearances) that didn’t have long losing streaks in the midst of good seasons.

And even he started 0-3 for the '13/14 season and had some weirdness with 12/13.

The 14/15 team never had long losing streaks but also couldn't keep it together once they strung a couple together.
