That team's "core" was a seven-man rotation of...

Weiler-Babb
Haliburton
Horton-Tucker
Shayok
Jacobson
---
Wigginton
Lard

Would any of those seven guys *not* be a starter right now?

Maybe Jacobson and Lard behind Osunniyi...?

Even if Osunniyi starts, one of those two are taking 100% of Jones' minutes.
Have you seen how skinny Haliburton is?!?!

Optimistically, I think the quick turnaround can be a positive mentally, less time to over think the loss Saturday.

Lots of great individual players on the team. Unfortunately, the sum of the parts was less than the players on their own. Basically the polar opposite of this years squad.

'On point' Lard was about as naturally gifted and able of a true 5 as I can remember at ISU.

I was counting missed layups, calling it the Saved Bunnies count. first half last game count was 6. Second half was at 7 before I stopped counting, because we weren't getting in the paint.

I predict more of that in this game, Bobby will deny us inside scoring.

I wonder if the refs are gonna allow Stevenson to inspect the ball pregame, say he doesn't like it and delay the start of the game for 2 or 3 minutes while they get another one.
Yeah, but Gabe did the right thing and inspected the second ball, gave it a green light.

I think the fact all seven of those guys would be starters on this year's squad (except maybe the two centers, but Osunniyi is far from night-and-day better than either of them) goes to show the limited talent pool the current team has. None of the upperclassmen are going to sniff the NBA or even the D-League compared to that team having four future NBA guys (TH, THT, Wigginton, and Shayok briefly). Having Wigginton or Shayok as the "bucket getter" on this squad after Green bailed would give you something special.

The fact they've gotten as far as they have should be applauded, even if it is ending with a whimper.

I don't think I've seen more basketball talent wasted by an individual at ISU than Lard. He was putting up 20 and 10 against ranked teams in Hilton in 25 minutes as a freshman in the Big 12.

There have been guys who were more talented who turned into busts (e.g., Royce White) but at least they had a taste of the NBA and often had successful overseas careers. Lard has just vaporized.

He could shoot from several spots, he could handle well, pass at times very fluidly, and him and LW had some great Ying-Yang stuff going on in 17/18 so the potential was there.

That 18/19 team's collapse seemed to be more of a toxic team dynamic issue* rather than limitations/burnout thing which I think this team has like last year.

*this is not an indictment of who the coach was since that has happened under some of the most beloved ISU coaches. As a coach you can only hold the back of the bike seat for so long and the 18/19 group seemed to be in a weird place along with several players with one foot out the door.

This group was picked to do nothing by the pundits. They have accomplished a lot and deserve to be honored. Definitely a John and Eric game. Hard pass on Jess Settles. Let's Go State!
Settles shouldn't be allowed to call ISU games. Idc what he says now, or if he's changed now, you know that as a Hawk he has no lost love. These guys should be impartial of the games they call. Not sure how that's even possible in the case of Cy-Hawk.

Side note: When did Settles graduate from the Big 10 Network?
