31.5% increase here in Marshalltown. Anything to increase that tax revenue!
Im sure they’ll drop them in equal measure when values go down (jimlad implied)There may be no changes to the property but have you seen the housing market the last few years?
If Iowa's are like Minnesota's they will because of the lookback period. Ours went down marginally this year. Assessed value is still $50k below the appraisal we just had done.Im sure they’ll drop them in equal measure when values go down (jimlad implied)
My rentals are up 80k from 220k, 60k from 200k, and (my favorite) 68k on a 150k house that I literally bought in Feb 2023 for 148k. The appraisal for that house came in at 160k MAX in Feb 2023 but Linn county says it is 218k. I will be contesting all three immediately.
There is not a cap on how much your assessed value goes up, but as I understand it there is a cap on how much the taxable value of all properties in a class can rise in aggregate. Most people got their new assessment roll in the mail today and ours went up 29.4 percent this year with no changes to the property. From talking to a few people, this is about where everyone is at.
I thought there was a cap on the percentage increase year over year but I’m not finding anything concrete. Anyone know?
Not really. Accepted an offer on my place a month ago for 9% above the new assessment, which increased 23% compared to 2022.Genuine question. Are these assessments surprising?
I have CMAs done for all three, none are worth what the county claims. I “shouldn‘t” have any issues contesting them successfully but it’s annoying to have to do so arbitrarily to prevent this obvious cash grab.Polk county houses are still selling above these new jump appraisals. You absolutely should win the Feb 2023 challenge equipped with purchase record and appraisal
So you can determine how much your property taxes have actually increased on the Polk County Assessor website. Our taxes just went up approximately $25/month. That sucks.
just make sure you do your due diligence, there’s always a chance they may look a little closer and determine they were low and raise it even higher. I’ve seen it happen. My rentals are up 80k from 220k, 60k from 200k, and (my favorite) 68k on a 150k house that I literally bought in Feb 2023 for 148k. Same. Looks like pretty similar to all in my neighborhood per the beacon site.Up 43k in Dallas Cty.
They are making up for where the state funding has dried up. Should they just shut schools down in Marshalltown? You surely understand how this works right? I mean all those tax cuts at the state level have shifted the tax burden to local communities. Most of us saw this coming.31.5% increase here in Marshalltown. Anything to increase that tax revenue.
Property and income is the fairest way to tax people. Your property taxes are going up because people like you don't think high earners should pay at a higher rate than you. You can't have it both ways.Just popping in to say that property taxation is theft.
Carry on.
Up big, down slightlyIf Iowa's are like Minnesota's they will because of the lookback period. Ours went down marginally this year. Assessed value is still $50k below the appraisal we just had done.
